Does the "Golden Rule" exist in Islam?

So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets. Matthew 7:12 (NIV)

Do to others as you would have them do to you. Luke 6:31 (NIV)

:) :)

Two reasons why I feel that Islam doesn't follow the "Golden Rule"

1. Women are abused and mistreated regularly an held as second class citizens by the majority of the muslim world.

2. Muslims kill through Jihads, yet become even more violent when someone retaliates. Odd, because often these Jihads do not hold to this passage from the Quran.

"Fight for the sake of God those that fight against you, but do not attack them first. God does not love the aggressors."

1- The so-called "Golden Rule":

Let us look at the following lie in the New Testament:
"So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets. (From the NIV Bible, Matthew 7:12)"

While, as a Muslim, I personally like the message very much, and will shortly show you that Islam truly honors this message, but this is by far, the biggest hoax I have ever seen in the bible! See the killing of children and non-virgin women, maiming of enemies, enslaving people, terrorism, racism, and much more in the next section.
2- What others and what treatment, and what Prophets???
What golden rule?! What summation of Prophets?!
The Old Testament is by far the worst book when it comes to "doing to others as you would have them do to you":

1- Slaves were to be enslaved for ever and inherited too; them and their children:
"Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. You can will them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly. (From the NIV Bible, Leviticus 25:44-46)"
You can write a will for your children and cause for the slaves to be inherited as property!
Let's compare this with what GOD Almighty Truly Said in the Noble Quran:
"Let those who find not the wherewithal for marriage keep themselves chaste, until God gives them means out of His grace. And if any of your slaves ask for a deed in writing (to enable them to earn their freedom for a certain sum), give them such a deed if ye know any good in them: yea, give them something yourselves out of the means which God has given to you. But force not your maids to prostitution when they desire chastity, in order that ye may make a gain in the goods of this life. But if anyone compels them, yet, after such compulsion, is God, Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful (to them), (The Noble Quran, 24:33)"
While the bible allows for slaves and their children to be willed and inherited from one generation to the next, the Noble Quran clearly gives the slaves the right to get their freedom and get some money from their Muslim Masters so they can get a good start in life.
See below in the article as to why slavery happened, and how it was then equivalent to our Social Security and Public Aid System today. Visit the following link also to see how Islam came to end the Judeo-Christian and Pagan slavery for good!

2- "Now kill all the boys [innocent kids]. And kill every woman who has slept with a man, but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man. (From the NIV Bible, Numbers 31:17-18)"
See the historical elaborations and proofs from the Jews' Talmud about Numbers 31:17-18 and the details of what took place from events back then. See how Moses ordered his men to rape 3-year old girls!
Let's compare this with what GOD Almighty Truly Said in the Noble Quran:
"On that account: We ordained for the Children of Israel that if any one slew a person - unless it be for murder or for spreading mischief in the land - it would be as if he slew the whole people: and if any one saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of the whole people. Then although there came to them Our apostles with clear signs, yet, even after that, many of them continued to commit excesses in the land. (The Noble Quran, 5:32)"
While the value of the human's life is easily compromised in the bible, the Noble Quran Holds it in the highest regard.

Repel Evil with Good:

Allah Almighty in the Noble Quran commands us to return the evil that is done to us by others to not only with good, but with best!

Let us look at Noble Verse 13:22 "Those who patiently persevere, seeking the countenance of their Lord; establish regular prayers; spend out of (the gifts) We have bestowed for their sustenance, secretly and openly; and turn off evil with good: for such there is the final attainment of the (Eternal) Home."

Let us look at Noble Verse 23:96 "Repel evil with that which is best: We are Well-acquainted with the things they say."
Let us look at Noble Verse 41:34 "Nor can goodness and evil be equal. Repel (evil) with that is better: Then will he between whom and thee was hatred become as it were thy friend and intimate!."
Let us look at Noble Verse 28:54 "Twice will they be given their reward, for that they have persevered, that they avert evil with good, and that they spend (in charity) out of what We have given them."
Let us look at Noble Verse 42:40 "The recompense for an injury is an injury equal thereto (in degree): but if a person forgives and makes reconciliation, his reward is due from Allah: for (Allah) Loveth not those who do wrong."

Whether people speak evil of you, in your presence or behind your back, or they do evil to you in either of those ways, all is known to Allah Almighty. It is not for you to punish. Your best course is not to do evil in your turn, but to do what will best repel the evil. Two evils do not make a good.
You do not return good for evil, for there is no equality or comparison between the two. You repel or destroy evil with something which is far better, just as an antidote is better than poison. You foil hatred with love. You repel ignorance with knowledge, folly and wickedness with the friendly message of Revelation. The man who was in bondage of sin, you not only liberate from sin, but make him your greatest friend and helper in the cause of Allah Almighty!. Such is the alchemy of the Word of Allah Almighty!. Your credit for returning evil with good and paying for charity is double. Also if you forgive and return the evil with good, then Allah Almighty will love you and reward you.

Further good manners teachings in the Noble Quran:
"It is part of the Mercy of Allah that thou dost deal gently with them. Wert thou severe or harsh-hearted, they would have broken away from about thee: so pass over (their faults), and ask for (Allah's) forgiveness for them; and consult them in affairs (of moment). Then, when thou hast taken a decision, put thy trust in Allah. For Allah loves those who put their trust (in Him). (The Noble Quran, 3:159)"

"Those who spend (freely), whether in prosperity, or in adversity; who restrain anger, and pardon (all) men; for Allah loves those who do good. (The Noble Quran, 3:134)"

"Hold to forgiveness; command what is right; but turn away from the ignorant. (The Noble Quran, 7:199)"

"Allah loveth not that evil should be noised a broad in public speech, except where injustice hath been done; for Allah is He Who heareth and knoweth all things. (The Noble Quran, 4:148)"

"Say to My servants that they should (only) say those things that are best: for Satan doth sow dissensions among them: for Satan is to man an avowed enemy. (The Noble Quran, 17:53)"

"Who avoid vain talk; (The Noble Quran, 23:3)"

"And when they hear vain talk, they turn away therefrom and say: 'To us our deeds, and to you yours; peace be to you: we seek not the ignorant.' (The Noble Quran, 28:55)"

No vain talking or foul language:
Muslims are commanded to stay away from vain talkers:
"When thou seest men engaged in vain discourse about Our signs, turn away from them unless they turn to a different theme. If Satan ever makes thee forget, then after recollection, sit not thou in the company of those who do wrong. (The Noble Quran, 6:68)"
"Who avoid vain talk; (The Noble Quran, 23:3)"
"And when they hear vain talk, they turn away therefrom and say: 'To us our deeds, and to you yours; peace be to you: we seek not the ignorant.' (The Noble Quran, 28:55)"
"So leave them to plunge in vain talk and play about, until they encounter that Day of theirs which they have been promised!- (The Noble Quran, 70:42)"
"(The sinners will say:) 'But we used to talk vanities with vain talkers;' (The Noble Quran, 74:45)"
According to the Noble Verses above, any vain talk or foul language are prohibited. Muslims must always stay away from vain talkers. Those who participate with them will be from among them, and will face a great punishment.
Hypocrites are those who speak foul language:
Let us look at what Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him said:
Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Amr: "The Prophet said, "Whoever has the following four (characteristics) will be a pure hypocrite and whoever has one of the following four characteristics will have one characteristic of hypocrisy unless and until he gives it up.

1. Whenever he is entrusted, he betrays.

2. Whenever he speaks, he tells a lie.

3. Whenever he makes a covenant, he proves treacherous.

4. Whenever he quarrels, he behaves in a very imprudent, evil and insulting manner." (Translation of Sahih Bukhari, Belief, Volume 1, Book 2, Number 33)"

Thanks. You did not prove that there is a "Golden Rule" of "So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets." Matthew 7:12 (NIV)

What you TRIED to show was a passage about what to do about evil. That is NOT the same as "do to others what you would have them do to you" but is a SUBSET of the Golden Rule! The Golden Rule means that you will not just handle evil but also, unprompted, do things which are correct and Godly to people who have not yet done anything to you.

There is a HUGE difference to this "Golden Rule" and the passages you copy-and-pasted from Osama's site.

Thanks for your attempt. Keep trying.

:)

P.S. Did you know that the "Golden Rule" exists in almost all religions EXCEPT Islam?

Really? And that’s why you have slaves in Sudan and elsewhere you came to end the slavery for good what a joke, your one of the religion that have slaves whereas Judaism and Christianity have ended slavery Christians even go to Sudan with great risk to buy free the slaves from muslim arabs go read about it on the web and then come back and tell us that you came to end slavery your either to stupid or to naive. And you don't have human rights it’s a hoax.

Obviously, that is again not the "Golden Rule."

Keep trying!

P.S. You gave no reference for the Hadith....

:)

Bukhari has a golden rule of sorts, but with a slight addition:

Sahih Bukhari Volume 1, Book 2, Number 12: Narrated Anas: The Prophet said, "None of you will have faith till he wishes for his (Muslim) brother what he likes for himself."

Source -- http://www.usc.edu/dept/MSA/fundamental ... 01.002.012

A very good article on Islam and the golden rule can be found at http://www.faithfreedom.org/Articles/sina50428.htm .

P.S. The MSA/USC database website uses the English translation of Bukhari by Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan . I was unable to find any other English translations of Bukhari’s golden rule on the internet.

I suspect that Dr. M. Muhsin Khan’s insertion of (Muslim) into Bukhari’s golden rule was intended to clarify and to illuminate the true meaning of the verse.

It sure did for me.

Kind Regards,
Farside

Thanks. I was waiting for some Muslim to find that Hadith.... which, of course, does NOT equal the "Golden Rule"..... because it is a qualified rule, the qualification being "brother".

I think Muhammad or his followers were also challenged about where the "Golden Rule" was in Muhammad's booklet, the Quran. They responded by adding this Hadith. But obviously they could not apply the rule to everyone.... how could they murder and rob the infidel if the Golden Rule was applied to all?

Easy solution. Limit the "Golden Rule" only to "brothers." Net effect..... it is no longer the "Golden Rule"!!!

:-? :-? :-?

Here another hadith: Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said who believe in God either say good saying or be silent (stop talking)

...so why did Muhammad (THUG) not follow his own advise?

He cursed disbelievers and Christians and Jews.... in fact, anyone who exposed him as the false "profit". He either cursed them, murdered them or did both.

:o

If he did, so that because they deserve that, and remember not all Christians a like
By the way this thread supposed to be the golden rule why you go out of the topic when you see a lot of golden rules in Islam!!!!

Does the "Golden Rule" exist in Islam?

So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets. Matthew 7:12 (NIV)

Do to others as you would have them do to you. Luke 6:31 (NIV)

:) :)

That "Golden Rule" does NOT exist in Islam.

It exists in many other religions but the backward religion of Islam "forgets" this rule!

:o

The "Golden Rule" in various religions

Islam????

Islam does not adhere to the Golden Rule

The closest that Islam comes to this principle is a hadith that says:

"None of you [truly] believes until he wishes for his brother what he wishes for himself." [Number 13 of Imam "Al-Nawawi's Forty Hadiths."]

The same hadith is reported by Bukhari 1.2.12

"The Prophet said, "None of you will have faith till he wishes for his (Muslim) brother what he likes for himself."

This brotherhood however does not extend to everyone. Quran (9:23) states that the believers should not take for friends and protectors (awlia) their fathers and brothers if they love Infidelity above Islam. In fact there are many verses that tell the Muslims to kill the unbelievers and be harsh with them. A clear example that Islam is not based on the Golden Rule is the verse (48:29) It says: "Muhammad is the messenger of Allah; and those who are with him are strong against Unbelievers, (but) compassionate amongst each other.â€Â

:o :o

lets end this foolish argument:

"Worship Allah, and join not any partners with Him; and do good- to parents, kinsfolk, orphans, those in need, neighbours who are near, neighbours who are strangers, the Companion by your side, the wayfarer (you meet), and what your right hands possess; For Allah loves not the arrogant, the vainglorious". (4:36).

Definition of Neighbour:

The word Jar (Neighbour) covers both Muslims and Kafirs, religious and irreligious, friends and enemies, foreigners and fellow-countrymen, those who treat you well and those who would do you harm, relatives and strangers, those whose house is nearer to yours and those who are further away

http://www.islamweb.net/ver2/archive/ar ... E&id=38687

from Bukhari:

101. 'A'isha reported that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Jibril, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, kept on recommending that I treat neighbours well until I thought that he would order me to treat them as my heirs."

102. Abu Shurayh al-Khuza'i reported that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Anyone who believes in Allah and the Last Day should be good to his neighbours. Anyone who believes in Allah and the Last Day should be generous to his guest. Anyone who believes in Allah and the Last Day should be say what is good or be silent.

105. Mujahid reported that a sheep was slaughtered for 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr. He asked his slave, 'Have you given any to our Jewish neighbour? Have you given any to our Jewish neighbour? I heard the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, say, 'Jibril kept on recommending that I treat my neighbours well until I thought that he would order me to treat them as my heirs.

112. Ibn 'Abbas told Ibn az-Zubayr, "I heard the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, say, 'A man is not a believer who fills his stomach while his neighbour is hungry

good manners in Quran (muslims, pay attention to the last one):

73:10] And remain steadfast in the face of their utterances, and disregard them in a nice manner.

[31:18-19] "You shall not treat the people with arrogance, nor shall you roam the earth proudly. GOD does not like the arrogant showoffs. "Walk humbly and lower your voice - the ugliest voice is the donkey's voice."

[4:148] GOD does not like the utterance of bad language, unless one is treated with gross injustice. GOD is Hearer, Knower.

[7:31] O children of Adam, you shall be clean and dress nicely when you go to the masjid. And eat and drink moderately; Surely, He does not love the gluttons.

[49:11] O you who believe, no people shall ridicule other people, for they may be better than they. Nor shall any women ridicule other women, for they may be better than they. Nor shall you mock one another, or make fun of your names. Evil indeed is the reversion to wickedness after attaining faith. Anyone who does not repent after this, these are the transgressors.

[49:12] O you who believe, you shall avoid any suspicion, for even a little bit of suspicion is sinful. You shall not spy on one another, nor shall you backbite one another; this is as abominable as eating the flesh of your dead brother. You certainly abhor this. You shall observe GOD. GOD is Redeemer, Most Merciful.

[14:26] And the example of the bad word is that of a bad tree chopped at the soil level; it has no roots to keep it standing.

[41:34] Not equal is the good response and the bad response. You shall resort to the nicest possible response. Thus, the one who used to be your enemy, may become your best friend.

[29:46] Do not argue with the people of the scripture (Jews, Christians, and Muslims) except in the nicest possible manner - unless they transgress - and say, "We believe in what was revealed to us and in what was revealed to you, and our god and your god is one and the same; to Him we are submitters."

Obviously, this is NOT the Golden Rule. We do good to many people. We give a scrap of food to a beggar... that is doing good. The Golden Rule goes further than "do good."

"Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets." Matthew 7:12, King James Version.

"And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise." Luke 6:31, King James Version.

Can you see the difference yet?

Bad manners from Muhammad....

O ye who believe! take not the Jews and the Christians for your friends and protectors: They are but friends and protectors to each other. And he amongst you that turns to them (for friendship) is of them. Verily God guideth not a people unjust. (5:51)

I think because all religions and Holy Books came from God, therefore, it's irrelevant whether The Golden Rule exists in Islam. No one says that Islam cannot take a peak inside the Bible or the Bible cannot peak inside the Quran. All the Holy books have something unique about them that others don't. By the way does something good like, 'Use the pen and not the sword' exist in the Bible? Because it exists in the Quran.

The different holy books are going to seriously contradict each other when it comes down to basic doctrine. (Setting aside the issue of whether holy books contain contradictions within themselves).

If God contradicts himself, how on earth can he be trusted?

God cannot contradict Himself. If violence arises in the hindu, muslim, jewish, christian, etc., community then that's where He would raise a prophet. Now what God reveals is the word of God, but the prophets are in human form and NOT GOD and therby likely to err. No prophet can be a God on earth. So if inconsistencies are there, it is because the interpretation was wrong and not the revelation as God is perfect. People put the blame on God because neither do they want to believe their heart nor their brain because it is so much easier to just blindly follow something.
