Dr. E.W. Bullinger (Companion Bible) Error on Job

Prince,

Fair enough. Credit should be given where credit is due. I am sure that Bullinger has much to say that is spot on.

This is why I believe it is best to first learn the story, then read what others have to say about the story... and don't lean on one person for your commentary, but spread yourself out and learn discernment.

It all takes time... lots of time so don't be in a hurry, and don't force theology :)

Grace and Peace Prince.

BTW, I enjoy listening to Rob Bell (Highly controversial to some), and I take what he has to say with discernment as well. For me, it's about sorting and filtering and re-sorting.

No just AS you assumed...

None you assume my bible is not out while I read other works, every time a man speaks concerning the bible my bible is out, (or on its way out) the words of man do not make my beliefs shall I blast you with pure scripture to prove so...

Heh heh heh. What's the matter with your typewriter?

Can't you cut and paste 1 Jn 4.1?

And that is fine, but there are many truth, some trapped within falsehood it is our job to search out

כְּבֹ֣ד אֱ֭לֹהִים הַסְתֵּ֣ר דָּבָ֑ר וּכְבֹ֥ד מְ֝לָכִ֗ים חֲקֹ֣ר דָּבָֽר׃

Tut tut. You really must get that typewriter fixed!

Well I dont spend ages, but I see what your saying, we are all different, God has different plans for us all.....The path of knowledge God sends you down might differ from mine....

But I assure you I am not missing out on the wondeful scriptures.......

I'm not attempting to condemn you, Prince. Merely showing that there's possibly a better way of using your scriptural time.

Tell you what. Get an Online Bible or esword, and only use that: omitting the commentaries, but maximising your use of the concordances and the various versions.

Try that for a year - and you'll be blessing me in 12 months time for having passed that gem on to you.

You'll have questions galore, and not many answers - but you'll find this strange thing: when you do go back to the commentaries, there won't be many answers to your questions.

Why? Because a. they won't have thought of those questions and b. if they did, they don't have any answers, and can't go round muttering 'I dunno, I dunno, I dunno'.

Won't do their reputations any good, I promise you.

Here's one that's got me stumped at the time I'm writing this.

Absalom was coming to get David who was in Jerusalem at the time. 2 Sam 15.

Jerusalem was the strongest fortified city in Israel.

Why then does David get up and leave it, rather than fighting from that position of enormous strength?

And here's a beauty:

Why did Ahithophel the Gilonite, David's own 'familiar friend', suddenly get up and change sides so violently, and give such obscene advice to Absalom? 2 Sam 16.21

DON'T use any commentaries - just figure it out for yourself. Do you the world of good.

Asyncritus,

I think you make some very valuable comments, and I especially agree with your example of the Third Day, and how we can over look the obvious in so many cases. Pehaps it's simply not enough to understand, or be a scholar in Greek or Hebrew. Perhaps it's better to simply understand the culture.

Thanks for the kind words, SB.

You have reminded me of the truly wonderful saying I picked up a while ago, and which has stayed with me ever since. It's in connection with this business of knowing Greek and Hebrew.

'A man who knows a lot about paint, isn't necessarily a great artist!'

Not to side track, but we see this often done within the parables of Jesus...

Maybe we can have a discussion about some of these on some other thread?

LOL

Ha I dont think you had any trouble rendering the verse..

I'm not attempting to condemn you,

I know, you and SB have been very polite..

Prince. Merely showing that there's possibly a better way of using your scriptural time.

Perhaps, but in all truth you would would need to know my exact schedule to provide this info, I think I have done a pretty godd job..

Tell you what. Get an Online Bible or esword, and only use that: omitting the commentaries, but maximising your use of the concordances and the various versions.

I have a couple.... I have a couple of different methods of reading the bible, a one is no commentaries, just reading and praying for understanding, following the word like the story it is..

Here's one that's got me stumped at the time I'm writing this.

Because Absalom had one over the people

II Samuel 15:6 "And on this manner did Absalom to all Israel that came to the king for judgment: so Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel."

If David would have stayed Absalom would have killed everyone just to get to David..

For the sake of the people David left....
