She is Jewish and I don't always agree with her on her stance on marriage, but for the most part I agree with her beliefs about family and the importance she places on the parental responsibilities.

She has a nationally syndicated radio program.

Have any of you heard of her? Do you listen to her show?

What do you think of her?

Please don't respond by blasting her if you have never listened for a while to get a feel of what she believes.

She has good advice in some cases but if I really dont enjoy listening to other peoples bad karma and ignorant choices.....

I have enough of that myself!

I an not impressed with her (and, yes, I have listened to her quite a bit). She may adhere to some good general principles, but I am of the opinion that there are 2 big problems:

1. She does not respect the fact that real-life situations are rarely, if ever, amenable to analysis in 5 minutes of air time. Real life is complex and general principles need to be applied in a careful, thoughtful manner when all the relevant facts have been brought forth. No person should expect anyone to given them advice based on a 3 to 5 minute call. You don't need to be an expert to know good principles to live by: honesty, responsibility, truthfulness etc. The real skill is understanding the particulars of a given situation.

2. She radiates judgmentalism. Now I know some of you may respond with the "she is just showing tough love" argument. I don't buy it. There is something about a person's style, their tone of voice, the way they say things that belies a judgmental nature that is not subject to the higher principle of love. In my view, she gives off a very judgemental vibe that seems to be unmoderated by love. That is my opinion, anyway.

I've heard her a few times, its good to see that she has a good understanding of Biblical marriage but the show is too talk-showish for me.

Scott, please elaborate on what exactly "talk-showish" is for me. :)

Thank you so much! :-D

I don't mean that she tries to exploit people the way tv talk shows do. I just get tired of hearing the same kinds of people call up who obviously don't have an ounce of common sense asking basically the same questions. I guess its more of the "personal problems on display" idea that turns me off. Not that there is anything wrong with that, I'm know there are people out there that need to hear good sound advice not watered down.

One thing I don't get is the fact that people think to call her for advice yet many times the same or similiar advice is given over and over. I assume that these people who think to call for advice actually listen to the show on a regular basis, yet it doesn't sound like people who call up are actually taking (or maybe even listening to) the advice given.

Trust me, I'm a person who can tell where another is coming from by meeting them or listening to them--- akin to a human lie-detector--- but sometimes it takes time.

That being said, at first I liked "Dr. Laura" as she puts on a good face for those who want to get back to traditional values. But then as I gathered more information, I saw that she had a very affected attitude. In addition, she is self-righteous. Don't waste your time with her.
