First time reading it and love it. Can't wait to peel open the next book by Herbert.

Yeah, read that one in junior high...very imaginative...the movie was bad (the one with Sting). The glowing blue eyes ruined it for me I think.

I like the anti-gravity, fat-supporting devices.

The only problem with the book is when (I think) Paul goes on a historic tirade about murderous tyrants of the past and all of them are from earth. You'de think that maybe some other planets would have horrible dictators as well!

This is my recollection from over ten years ago, though.

I'm looking at buying a DVD of Dune. Which one should I get...the TV mini or the movie?

I don't know. The people I know who saw the mini think it's a lot better...I haven't seen it, though.

The older movie's alright, it just wasn't anything like the book...the basic atmosphere was different as well. You get to see Sting in his bikini.

The SciFi channel just released Childern of Dune and are making the others. 100 mil was what they had to work with so I think I'll take my chances with the made for tv mini. thx.

That is a hard choice. There is much about the first movie I like better but the second one has some pretty cool effects that the first didn't have. I would suggest watching both first before you buy.
