Dying to self

The above message was written by my Dad... 50 years preacher..+a paying job
Dad was a normal dad of the 50s went to work and let Mom take care of the kids...
Some where in the late 60s early 70s.. He had a spiritual awaking... i noticed a change... the change grew..
Dad more and more died to self .. became more and more Christlike ...
The cares of the the world went inot the back ground... O he took care of things as he should have but God and His Word were the focus of his life Dad has been gone for almost 20 years now i still miss him... We like to think he is fishing with Peter... :)

It's very good. I like what he said about "after commendation where you can truly love to be unknown." I was just nominated for LifeChanger of the Year for my 28 years in education. I don't mind being recognized but I do think it needs to be kept in perspective. When I read the words of truly loving to be unknown it translated that we should truly love being unknown for our good works. Not unknown in the sense that people don't see them. But in the sense that our works don't define us. Our good works bring glory to God, and not us. That's how it should be. Because ultimately, it is God who gives us our gifts. Why then should we receive any glory for using that which God has given us? No. To God be the glory.

And I'm sure he is. Heaven is a place that we know we will go to and be with God. The message your dad gave is wonderful, very true, very thought provoking (for me).

That's a legacy I want to leave when I go home. When I get there I want to play golf without my arthritis in my knees playing up. I want to go from place to place on the new earth and new heaven.

Thanks for your post Reba. Very thought provoking.

O my Reba. That's the best simple teaching on the subject of "dying To Self" that I've seen. I just love it when a preacher like your Dad, puts the cooky jar down low so the kids can get the cooky's.

Ecclesiastes 4:4 KJV
Again, I considered all travail, and every right work, that for this a man is envied of his neighbour. This is also vanity and vexation of spirit.

Other versions read a little differently.

My skills of the flesh have a different source than the gifts of the Spirit. Mary and Martha (and a Denomination or two) helped me see labor and skill differently.

Now I have an internal battle over some of the balance of life.

Thanks again Reba for posting your Dad's words. I'm sure that he was prompted to write such convicting words because he was a lover of God AND His Word. Glory to God in the highest. I'll just bet that he is a part of the "Cloud of Witnesses. (Hebrews 12:1) Love You. :hug
