Ears to Hear

Using the Bible software I have at my disposal, I ran a search on the expression “ears to hear†and found eight matches. Attempting to come up with a definition for “ears to hear,†I came up with this:

Having “ears to hear†means you are still learning. If you don’t have “ears to hear,†you have stopped learning.

Would you agree?

That's one possibility. I've thought it meant more on the order of being ready and willing to accept what is being taught. Kind of the difference between a hard heart and a soft one. Same is true with "eyes to see."

I think I was trying to say the same thing you said.

I think there are those who read the Bible and think there is nothing more to learn.

Lets TEST this then if so?:yes (From my Spartanburg S.C. Herald News Paper)

Theologians Urge Catholic reforms

University theologians have called on the Catholic Church to abandon the vow of celibacy for priests, open up the clergy for women and eccept gay couples.
The 143 professors said the church must implement bold reforms because of 'a crisis without precedent' following the discovery of widespread sexual and physical abuses by clergy men a year ago.
More Christians than ever have turned their backs on the Catholic Church in the past year, they said.'The Church has to understand these signs and move beyond its ossified structures to regain new vitality and creditibility'
The appeal, published in newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung's Friday edition, called on the church's leadership to stop execulding gay couples and remarried Christians.

Elijah here: And these ones you call Christians?? And you wonder who you are in yoked membership with?? Rev. 17:1-5

I should have probably been more complete about my statement. When I said "accept what is taught" I was referring to what is taught by Jesus and not what is taught by man. And the Lord said, "Those with ears, let them hear!"

To me it separates those who have been touched by the Spirit to accept what Jesus is teaching, and those who have a hard heart. For example, the Pharisees have closed minds and do not accept Jesus' teachings but his disciples are able to accept the teachings.

Today it can represent those who open the Bible and accept what it says, and the atheist who open the Bible and find it to be nothing but fairy tales and gibberish.

Maybe those without the ears to hear and eyes to see can also include those who are Christians, but now study the Bible only to find arguments to support their particular viewpoints of subjects they like to win arguments about, rather than letting scripture teach them.

Just seeking a little clarification here: When you ask "And these ones you call Christians??" who exactly are you referring to? Are you referring to the abusers? The professors/theologians calling for reform? Are you referring to all Catholics?
