Easter eggs

When we allow pagan practices into the Church, even though it's a cutesy thing for childrens entertainment, then we are also giving place to Satan unaware we are doing so.
I'm not. Are you?

Do us all a favor. Hold to this belief if you wish, but don't chastise the rest of us who choose not to fall into legalism. Most of us here are not the "weaker brother" or "weaker sister" you may intend to address. It would behoove you to know who you are talking to before you start criticizing.

Let me ask you this: Do you go to bars? Do you patronize restaurants that serve alcohol? Do you go to movie theaters that are showing "questionable" fare? Do you like blues and jazz clubs where there is smoking and drinking going on? Do you go to shopping malls to buy presents at Christmas, or do you go there during the rest of the year to buy clothes, jewelry, or other products? Do you stop at convenience stores to buy gas, snacks, drinks? Do you like opera, ballet, Broadway shows, or other theater options? Do you engage in Internet message boards and forums?

Once I see your answers, I'll tell you why I ask.

I personally don't care whether Easter has pagan origins or not. What matters to me is it's purpose now.

"One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks."
~Romans 14: 5-6 KJV

My church is participating in a community Easter egg hunt tomorrow, we provided some of the eggs for it. This provides a good witness opportunity, which is why we do it.

What exactly is wrong about it? Yes, it was once pagan. So what?

Wow.... I'm flabbergasted!!! God said his word shall stand forever but if given enough time, paganism becomes ok!?!?! Why not just say Hinduism is a Christian religion?

I just don't see the connection between celebrating Easter, coloring eggs, and that making me a pagan. I celebrate Easter to remind myself about Jesus' sacrifice, and as an opportunity to keep my mind on Him. I color eggs because it's fun.

You didn't really answer my question. I was hoping you'd give me a straight answer, because although I don't think it's wrong, it's always good to get other perspectives.

But if you're bent on arguing, I'm out. It's not worth arguing over. "Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another."~Romans 14:19 KJV

The Bible and it's truth ain't fun enough for you? You answered your own question.... What's wrong with it? It was once (and still is) pagan.

But have fun coloring your eggs.

"Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand."~Romans 14:4 KJV

"I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself: but to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean."~Romans 14:14 KJV

Amen. We are not pagans. We don't know any pagans (at least I don't). The discussion is foolishness.

Yea sure.... It's kind of like letting kids smoke pot and then revealing to them that it's wrong and against the law, isn't it?
That's the most absurd nonsense I've seen anyone post, comparing pot smoking to egg coloring. What is your problem, anyway?

Like I said, have fun coloring your easter eggs.
Don't worry. We will. My kids are grown, but your legalistic pap makes me want to go out and find some kids to color eggs for. Sheesh!

No, what's foolish is the way people are so careless about how they worship and honor God. He gave grace to cover all sins of the flesh. That means it doesn't matter what you eat, what you drink, or what you wear or your sexual preference -- on down the line. He just cares that you worship in spirit and in truth. Check out the words from Jesus himself in John 4:24. But grace wasn't enough, was it? People want to worship your own way and allow paganism into pure worship.

Jesus and his Truth ain't fun enough? Must we engage in pagan practices????

Brethren, this thread is wandering to accusations in a personal manner. Let's calm it down. Thanks.

Colossians 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

I just don't see the problem unless we are actually worshiping pagan gods. What matters is our intentions. If we are worshiping him in spirit and in truth, our intentions will be to do it to His glory. Whether it used to be pagan or not only matters if you think it does.
That said, if it were still in practice today as a pagan ritual, it would be best to avoid it for the sake of avoiding the appearance of evil--because then people could mistake it as you practicing a pagan religion. But it's not. Today, Easter is widely known as a Christian holiday.

JMO.

I believe this can be a profitable discussion for those who may be undecided on this issue. But it's not worth tearing others apart over. I'm in as long as it's discussed in a peaceable manner.
I have to be somewhere in about 25 minutes, and I'll be away until sometime tomorrow aftermoon. So this will probably be my last post in this thread for now.

Yes, very relevant verses, IMHO.

Blessings.

Greetings egg lovers and haters all. Just posting here so that I can easily "Subscribe" to the thread and watch the boiling temperature go down. Interesting tip - salt will alter the boiling temp. Ye are the salt of the earth. Add that to your dyed-in-the-wool ideas. Prevent Sparrow from posting more "puns" or things he considers funny (please) - stop the add-hominy or your'll get more colored corn (please... I cringe when I do this).

This is just so unbelievable. I just got home from a wonderful Good Friday service that left me in such a great and reverent mood, remembering who Christ was and what He did for me, and looking forward to celebrating His resurrection on Easter Sunday. But I am already missing the fellowship, so I come here to be with Christians in the internet world if I can't be with them right now in real life. And what do I see, but this legalistic, name calling, condemnation over an inconsequential thing like putting food coloring on egg shells so little kids can have a little something to bring them joy and happiness, and all this condemnation of the holiday that had thus far been bringing me closer to my Lord. You have totally ruined the wonderful and worshipful mood I was in. Thanks a lot. Good night.

As far as I know the colouring of the eggs came to be due to the fasting rules during lent that didn't allow eating eggs in some places. So the eggs were hard boiled to keep them for a few weeks and marked with some colourfull mark according to the day the egg was laid, so people could eat the older ones first after the end of lent (=during Easter).

This explaination makes the most historical sense to me.

I don't care what you call me thisnumberdisconnected the point is are we serving God or enjoying the festivities of the world that seem alright in some peoples eyes, but yet come against God even in the innocense we think it is. There is no fence riding when it comes to God and no excuses before Him.

Amen!!!!
