I think end-times talk is going through a transition away from the popular views which held sway over the last century or so. There is a noticeable trend to preterism. Personally I would prefer that people did not shift from one extreme to the other but it is understandable. People are sick of the nonsense – failed predictions etc - so they are opting for the safe (but unimaginative) theories which place prophecy in the past.

Is this just me? Have you noticed any obvious trends? On the following poll you can tick as many boxes as you like and then comment on them or add a point of your own.

I didn't cast a vote, I did not see any that fit my feelings about the subject.

I think end-time views are shifting, from my own personal observation. But I also think there is a reason. More and more evident are the signs of fulfillment of Bible prophecies, and people were told they would never see the things they are seeing today.

I even saw an article By one of the left behind authors, casting doubt on some of his own ideas. I have never believed we were so much better than the believers in the early Church, that we would never see persecution and the evil deeds of man. But I have always believed we would be removed, before the wrath of God was poured out on the sinful world.

But as far as prophecy being fulfilled in the past, no, it is being fulfilled today. I think there is a fear of that, and that is why people want to look the other way, and say it has happened already. :twocents

It doesn't matter how many times fallible man changes his mind about the truth of Gods written word, it still stands, unchangeable, and on it's own merit.

Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; obey it, and repent. But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you. Rev.3:3

I did not case a vote, did not see no that really fits me.. But I think the reason end times views are and have changed are. I think because of the knowledge increase, we have a better understanding of events. God told Daniel to seal up the books and the generation would come who would understand. I think we are that generation.. ie my paraphrase

Right that is why the dispensational, pretrib view is slowly, but surly falling by the wayside.

Nor did I see a vote choice that shows the end times are coming to pass just like God's Word has always shown it would, that more are coming to an understanding today while others are in greater denial of the events they daily see. Preterism represents a system of men's doctrines to support greater denial of end time events written in God's Word that are to come to pass.

This was my vote:

This is only apparent on internet forums; most people are the same as before

I just don't see many teachers on the TV or the average believer changing their end times view.

Hmmm :chin You may be right Vic but on forums I hear the comment, "I used to be, but now I ...." and this is often from quite thoughtful-type people.

Another thing that makes me wonder is age group. Im 'baby-boomer' and it is often our age group that fiercely defends the futurist view. But the younger groups seem to be looking for alternatives in eschatology. I may be wrong ... just an observation. If what Im thinking is true, is it possible the dispensational era is going to die away with this generation?
