Esther 4:16 versus 5:1

Esther said that she would fast for 3 days, night or day, and that after doing that, that she would go to the king. However, verse 5:1 says that she went to the king on the 3rd day. How can she go to the king on the 3rd day and at the same time go after the 3rd day?

She probably fasted part of the time, but likely had some food when she went to the king, to avoid looking half dead. She likely wanted others to be fasting and praying for her while she was risking her life, hoping that God was hearing their prayers. Besides that, "3 days and nights" is an expression, not an absolute statement, since Jesus was "3 days and nights" in the "belly of the Earth," yet the time of his death was mathematically only 2 nights and parts of 3 days. It's an expression or idiom, not an arithmetical statement.

Three days and three nights in the heart of the earth, yet He rose on the third day.


Sounds like a Jewish thing.

Actually, He said it would be - "three days and three nights". And your 2 nights is based on the idea of a 6th day of the week burial. Many papers have been written for a 4th day or 5th day crucifixion.

Probably should get this discussion back onto the topic of the OP. Start a new discussion if you wish to talk about the crucifixion and resurrection of our Lord. Also, keep in mind that this forum (Q&A) is not a debate forum but only used to ask questions and get answres. If the OP has questions, they may be asked here but there is no place in this forum for debating the answers. That should be done in the Theology or Apologetics forum as appropriate.

There's really a fine line between questioning an answer, and debating an answer, isn't there.
