I have been thinking about this on and off for a long time now...

In this video, they are basically saying that eternal life is here and now. Is that a fairytale or the whole point of Jesus and the bible? I do read the bible, occasionally but I connect more with videos and such. I do listen to KJV bible audio as well when I can.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I watched the entire video.
It's a good explanation of what eternal life means. What it teaches is correct and based on the bible teachings.

Eternal life is given to us in this life, age, and if we remain faithful to God, Jesus our redeemer, our external life will Continue after our death.

In fact it will be a perfect after our death and also in the last age when God establishes heaven on earth, also called the New Jerusalem.

Eternal life begins when one connects to the Source of All Life, God Almighty. That can only happen this side of the grave by trusting in Jesus as one's Savior and Lord (Romans 10:9-10; John 3:16). In fact, the Bible says that Christ is the Life of the born-again person, which makes sense since Jesus is God (Colossians 1:13-20; Colossians 2:9; Colossians 3:4; John 1:4; 1 John 5:11-12; John 14:6). Eternal life, then, starts in this life but it continues without end beyond the decease of one's physical body.

The attention given in the video to the Hebrew term "olam" makes understanding the phrase "everlasting life" unnecessarily convoluted, in my view. In the end, the video narrators arrive at what one would have naturally understood, more or less, of the phrase had one never heard of the Hebrew term "olam." In fact, the idea of an "age" has been used by a pseudo-Christian cult (Jehovah's Witnesses) to deny basic, orthodox Christian doctrine of life unending beyond death, either with God or in hell.

Fortunately, without knowing anything about the Hebrew term "olam," one can still arrive at a perfectly biblical understanding of what "eternal life" means.

John 11:25-26
25 Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies,
26 and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?"

John 6:47-51
47 "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes has eternal life.
48 "I am the bread of life.
49 "Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died.
50 "This is the bread which comes down out of heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die.
51 "I am the living bread that came down out of heaven; if anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever..."

John 3:16
16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

John 5:24
24 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.

Revelation 21:2-4
2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

Hi EyeSoulAtion and welcome to CF :wave2

Sorry, but I didn't watch the video, but eternal life with the Father is His greatest promise to all who will believe in Him and His Son Christ Jesus. If you are Spiritually born again and baptized in the Holy Spirit, John 3:5-7, then eternal life is here and now as you are a child of God by God's grace through faith in Christ, Ephesians 2:8-10, and already have everlasting life. We might have to live on this present earth right now, but we are no longer of this world and nothing can separate us from the love of God, Romans 8:31-39.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Without diving into the video, I’d say that aionian life came by Christ, and is fundamentally at two levels. One is Christian life for the here & now (Jhn.17:3), upgrading all previous levels of knowing God: it can be handy to call this eternal life, to emphasise its quality. Two is life with God beyond the barrier of death, which I hold to be open on a wider basis than Christian faith: it can be handy to call this everlasting life, to emphasise its quantity. The KJV jumbled up the terms eternal/everlasting (from the same Greek base) as the mood took it, but I wouldn’t take it to task for that.

Thanks for the link. Enjoyed watching it :)

eternal life is here and now.
Right, Eternal life begins when you have been born of the Spirit. Presently, it is in us.

John 3:16 New International Version

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Thayer's Greek Lexicon
STRONGS NT 166: αἰώνιος

  1. without beginning or end, that which always has been and always will be:
  2. without beginning: ... a gospel whose subject-matter is eternal, i. e., the saving purpose of God adopted from eternity, Revelation 14:6.
  3. without end, never to cease, everlasting:
At https://biblehub.com/john/3-16.htm, 20 versions use "eternal life" only Literal Standard Version uses "continuous life".

In any case, this special life starts here and now, Luke 17:

21 nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the kingdom of God is in your midst.”

Hi, another way of looking. . I would offer is many things are like a two sided coin used of Jesus as a parable. To include the doctrine of eternal life.

Giving to Caesar what is his and the hidden side giving to God what belongs to him. Caesar the temporal. God not seen the eternal. You could say a mix . . both together as one vision.

It would seem the hidden side of eternal life is. . . . temporal life

Mankind chose that seen the temporal the beauty of serpent before the fall.. Mankind died losing the reward of eternal life .

Jesus working the work of Father demonstrated the power of love. . brought us back to the garden of Eden the right side up.

Genesis 3:3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

In that way we are given the proper tools prescribed for the mixing, called the gospel rest in Hebrew 4:1-2

2 Corinthians 4:18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
