Evangelism

AV's thread of "message of witnessing" got locked because of the fight about technicality of "how to".

According to the evangelist Ray Comfort, most of the churchegoers are not evangelizing; only 3% of them are doing it.

Jesus says plainly in Matt 28:19-20 "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baprizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everying I have commanded you."

He is saying very clearly "teaching them to obey everytyhing I have commanded you." Not just a part of His commands!!!!

People who take initiative to evangelize know how to reach out and tell them what they have to know about Jesus and why we need Him.

We should praise God for those who evangelize instead of critisizing.

People who have the heart of reaching out to the lost, fugure out the way how to do it effectively. Jesus will teach them and help them!!!. It is not always the same way; we have many kinds of people!

I have been evangelizing for 7 years and have been better the time goes by.

Let's not being legalistic and argue, nitpicky and saying your church or denomintaion's ways are the only way!!!!

Jesus is humongous! He has more ways than just one way!!!!

We hardly have enough people to reaching out and you are nitpicking servants who do it because you don't like their ways?

His servant, hitomi

According to you, that isn't the case. You say that Churchgoers don't follow Christ, so which is it?

Evangelism is not hard; all you need is willingness and If you have been reading the bible and been faithful in striving to be obedient to Him Jesus will help you with the rest. Jesus blesses you for your effort! Don't worry about being perfect. You will be better and better as the time goes on.

Luke 10:2 Jesus says "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few." :crying:

That is incorrect, the topic was closed because certain posts were off topic and the topic got out of hand.

As for this topic:

What would you suggest people do to increase the amount of people who evangelize? What plain of action do you think is necessary to get people out there evangelizing?

Criticism is a good thing as long as it is done out of love and with the intent of restoring them to the right path; after all Galatians 6:1-2 does call for restoration of those who have fallen astray. So please make suggestions.

Here you go again, If you don't think my thread is complete and did not meet your standard why dont you add yourself instead of questioning the quality of the thread?
You seem to be insinuating that my post is not loving. I don't agree with you.

You are not giving credit to you readers. They are much smarter than you think; I believe they got my message.

Everyone can figure out for themselves if they want to reach out to the lost. I did not know how but I became better as time went by. It's just a matter of doing it.

My three kids are doing in their own ways too. I don't give them instructions. They have willingness and they have been getting better too.

If you have to ask others how then it will not continue. The passion for Him is the key for being His servant.

Gingercat,

I’m not insinuating anything. You have made an assumption about my post when in reality I was merely putting up a biblical reminder. I merely asked you to provide suggestions so us, you deem in error, can be corrected and restored to the right path. I seek to learn and am asking for your input on evangelism. Please answer the questions for they are intended for learning. I ask in all humility and respect and do not intend to debate anything with you in this topic.

If you are asking my advice I am glad to help you. But you were saying that the people needs suggestions. Like I said, they are smarter than you think. I am saying this because my kids are doing it without my suggestions.

All I am doing is to encourage people to be more seriouse about servanthood and evangelism is just another one of the tasks.

Good day Noc,

I think good evangelism starts with knowing what the message is. Jesus makes several claims about why he came. (Abundant life (John 10); good news to the poor, sight to the blind, etc. (Luke 4); the kingdom of heaven is near (Mt. 10).

There are many people who are not preaching on the corner who are, nevertheless, bringing healing and abundant life to the widows and orphans of our day. I think a healthy definition of evangelism has to include this kind of work, since, through this work, God's love is being shown and known to many.

Some definitions given by others:

Anglican Definition:

“To evangelize is so to present Christ Jesus in the power of the Holy Spirit, that men shall come to put their trust in God through Him, to accept Him as their Savior, and serve Him as their Lord in the fellowship of His Church.â€Â

Definition given by a man name Lewis Drummond:

“A concerted effort in the power of the Holy Spirit to confront unbelievers with the truth about Jesus Christ and the claims of our Lord with a view to leading unbelievers into repentance toward God and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ and, thus, into the fellowship of his church so they may grow in the Spirit.â€Â

Campus Crusade For Christ definition:

“Presenting Jesus Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit and leaving the results to God.â€Â

(All quotes come from Alvin Reid, Introduction To Evanglism (Nashville: Broadman and Holman Publishers, 1998), pp. 12-15.)

The Campus Crusade For Christ definition is my favorite because it makes emphases that it is not the job of the Christian to convert others but to merely proclaim the gospel to the lost, God does the converting and saving.

Evangelism is not just clubbing people over the head with the Bible. It comes in many forms, including caring for the needy, being a compassionate friend, or just living our daily lives in faithfulness to God. Our lives should be an example of the Gospel. When they are people will be attracked to our lives and will want to know the source of our joy. Evangelization isn't neccessarily reeling them in. It is a thing of pride to think that we are going to bring people in to the church. We may be just one small step for them along the way to a conversion that takes 20 years to bear fruit. My father owned a field that one year came up in sweet clover from one end to the other. There had not been sweet clover plantd on it for 20 years but the conditions became right and the seed that had been planted long ago germinated and grew. I've heard that the average convert is evangelized in some fashion on the average of 7 times. We Christians think differently than those who are not Christians and many times it takes hearing it several times for them to get it. Prayer is very important in any evangelization effort.
