Do you all think that the Holocaust and Evolution are connected. I believe if Darwin had never came up with his theory, the Holocaust never would have happened. What do you all think?

I agree. Hitler deified evolution and used it tocast other races in an inferior light. If a black is "mostly ape" and a Jew is "close to pure ape" as Hitler believed and taught, and if the population believes this, then it is much easier to exterminate these races.

Would that be just like the homosexual discrimination we see today?

If people that use religious theories would have never said it was a sin/abomination would there be any dislike for them?

Not trying to throw your topic off here I am just trying to understand what you think theories are capable of.

I didn't vote because I think that even if Darwin hadn't written, Hitler still would have done the same. Darwin merely expounded on what was already "out there" in terms of evolutionary theory by providing the mechanism for evolution. Of course, Darwin's writings certainly brought evolutionary theory to the forefront and gave it "credibility".

Please add a No option to the vote that doesn't also disavow the connection between the two.

Of course there lies a connection between the two, Hitler himself reaffirmed it. The real question though should be, what is the strength of that connection? Personally I don't think it was strong enough to be instrumental in the chaos that occurred. I think its much more likely that it was a conveinant masking to cover up evil, and used as such.

"Free" thank you for reminding everyone that Darwin didn't come up with evolution.

The question is academic any way.

What if Hitler had become a follower of Jesus?

there are so mant what if's

What if the British had never had invented the Concentration Camp--maybe Hitler would not have had the idea to build them.

Read MEIN KAMPF. Hitler was a Christian. He may not have been your version of a Christian but like many others he twisted the bible to suit his beliefs.
"The greatness of Christianity did not lie in attempted negotiations for
compromise with any similar philosophical opinions in the ancient world, but
in its inexorable fanaticism in preaching and fighting for its own doctrine."
[Adolph Hitler, "Mein Kampf" Vol. 1 Chapter 12]

I think the important distinction is that whether or not Hitler was a Christian, he proported or claimed he was a Christian.

I think it is an unfair example to hold Hitler up as any sort of example of Christianity. If he had been any other religion, or even an atheist, that doesn't mean he wouldn't have done what he did.

I similarly think that it is unfair to hold up Stalin as some sort of atheist example.

Both are extremely barbaric and ruthless murderers, and to hold either up as an example of their respective claimed faiths is narrowminded and stereotypes, in my opinion.

I think that Hitler used evolution and the Bible to rally the troops to his war cry. But I think without either one of these, Germany would still have gone to war. (They wanted to not feel so beaten down by WWI.)

However, without evolution and the Bible, it would have been hard to justify the killing of the Jews. So I think it took both concepts to get the Holocaust started up. Basically the idea seemed to be "We are the evolutionary the best and we serve God by killing the Christ-killers and the sin deformed people."

Hitler may or may not have been a "christian", however he certainly wasn't a follower of Jesus Christ.

Wouldn't that by the definition of Christian mean Hitler wasn't a Christian, evanman???

A Christian is a person who follows the teachings of Jesus Christ, and history is pretty obvious that he didn't.

It is too subjective to say what is the correct way to follow Jesus. (If it were plain and simple there would not be thousands of denominations.) For example, to support Nazi Christianity, all you need to do is assume that Jesus is God and quote stuff from the Old testament like

"Then I heard the LORD say to the other men, "Follow him through the city and kill everyone whose forehead is not marked. Show no mercy; have no pity! Kill them all – old and young, girls and women and little children. But do not touch anyone with the mark. Begin your task right here at the Temple." So they began by killing the seventy leaders. "Defile the Temple!" the LORD commanded. "Fill its courtyards with the bodies of those you kill! Go!" So they went throughout the city and did as they were told." (Ezekiel 9:5-7)

So Nazi Christians could see Jesus commanding them to kill others.

So the only objective criteria for seeing who is a Christians is to ask them and see if they identify themself as one.

If Hitler were a follower of Jesus he would not have supported the Holocaust!

Being a "Christian" does not necessarily equate with being a follower of Jesus Christ!
