Excuse me while I blow the whole thing up…
Today I was told by a friend of mine about Anton Lavey, author of the Satanic Bible. Apparently, as his soul was departing, he uttered his last words: Oh my! Oh my! What have I done? As though he could see the grinning faces of the devils he had served, come at last to take him to his eternal reward.Sounds good to me. But is it true?
After careful research, let me tell you… I don't know. I really don't. And that ticks me off. The internet is such a useless tool when the chips are down, you know.
If these desperately regretful last words of one of the most evil lives in history are legitimate, what a powerful statement they would make!
But the bottom line is, even with millions of results in the blink of an eye, people who love him are going to vehemently deny it, and people who hate him are going to present it as fact. You'll never see vice versa.
And as much as I hate to admit it, even a Satanist is innocent until proven guilty.
The video that tops my google search (and clearly weaponizes these alleged last words) is one of those Christian videos that I will NEVER click on: all-caps, some stupid emojis, and brainless hashtags. Cheap sensationalism substituted for genuine faith.
I have long nursed a quiet hatred for google. But now I must admit that google is less about having an agenda, and more about being an inanimate vehicle for agenda.
There are A LOT of lies out there, friend. Endless streams of lies and misinformation. And lies and misinformation must be categorically rejected even when they work in our favour. It is monstrous to even consider representing and promoting our Lord, who is Truth Itself, with faulty arguments and unproven evidence. What's done in the dark will be brought to the light.
Jesus has no need for embellishment, no need for our personal agenda. The Gospel speaks for itself. And the last words of some hipster goth jackass are dust in the wind compared to the seven monolithic phrases our Saviour uttered as he hung dying on the cross:
Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.
Assuredly, I say to you, today, you will be with Me in Paradise. Woman, behold your son… behold your mother
My God, my God why have you forsaken me?
I thirst.
It is finished.
Into your hands I commit my spirit.
We are indeed to defend the Gospel. As Christ's body, we must sometimes be his fists. But let us drop forever the notion that the bells and whistles of culture and current events are the means by which we fight. It is no bad thing to understand the times, but God's word is our sword. It is our armour and our shield. It is the first wave of attack and the last line of defense in every aspect of our lives.
So study it.
