1. To believe is to be saved, the devil comes to take the word away.
James 1:21-25, is further example of this, how the word was not received with meekness, deceiving our own selves, by not being a doer of the word. If we are a hearer, and not a doer, we are like a man that sees our natural self in a glass, we behold ourselves then go our way, ( own way) and straight away forget what manner of man we were.
It is avoided ( the devil coming to take the word away) by continuing in the perfect law of liberty, ( not beholding ourselves and own natural interests instead of the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that freed us from that.) not being a forgetful hearer. ( non doer of the work.) to be blessed in our deed.
2. Having no root is believing for a while, and it is falling away again.
Ephesians 3 tells of the faith which is rooted and grounded in love, by Christ dwelling in our hearts.
Colossians 2:6-8, is the way we received Christ, to walk in Him. Rooted and built up in Him, and established in the faith, as they have been taught, abounding in Christ with thanksgiving.
Being beware that no man through vain deceit and the rudiments of the world spoil us to not walk after Christ.
1. Luke 8:12 Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.
2. Luke 8:13 They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.
1. James 1:21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
1. James 1:25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
2. Ephesians 3:17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,
2. Colossians 2:6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:
7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.
8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
3. After they heard, they go forward and are choked ( from the word) with cares and riches, and pleasures of this life, which brings no fruit to perfection.
Hebrews 6:8-12, speaks of the thorns, which are not the better things that accompany salvation. Those are the work and labour of love they sow towards the name of Jesus Christ, ministering to the saints, showing the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end. To not be slothful, but followers of them who through faith inherit the promises.
As Luke 21:34-36 warns to take heed to ourselves so our hearts are not overtaken with cares of this life, so the day comes unawares on us. As a snare it comes on all of them who dwell on the face of the whole earth. We are exhorted to therefore pray always to be accounted worthy to escape all of those things that come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.
2 Timothy 3:1-5, lets us know that in the last times, terrible times shall come, for men shall be lovers of their own selves, coveting, boasting, proud, unthankful, lovers of pleasures, more than lovers of God, ( rooted and built up in Him, established in the faith, as we have been taught, abounding with thanksgiving. Colossians 2:7.) they have a form of godliness, but deny the power of godliness.
3. Luke 8:14 And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.
3. Hebrews 6:8 But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned.
9 But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak.
10 For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.
11 And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end:
12 That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
3. Luke 21:34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.
35 For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.
36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.
3. 2 Timothy 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
4. But they, in an honest and good heart, heard the word and keep it, to bring forth fruit with patience. ( showing the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end. To not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises. Hebrews 6:11-12.)
Philippians 4:8-9, are what things are honest, what things are of good report, of the things we have both learned and received and heard in the Apostles of the Lord, to do, and the God of peace shall be with us. ( As we have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk we in Him, rooted and built up in Him, and established in the faith. Colossians 2:6-7.)
Hebrews 13:18, is the good conscience of the Apostles of the Lord, in all things they were willing to live honestly.
Apostle Peter in 1 Peter 2:11-12, beseeches us to abstain from fleshy lusts which war against the soul, to have our conversation honest among the Gentiles, who speak against you as evildoers, who may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of His visitation.
4. Luke 8:15 But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.
4. Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
4. Hebrews 13:18 Pray for us: for we trust we have a good conscience, in all things willing to live honestly.
4. 1 Peter 2:11 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;
12 Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.
