  • The Son of God is wanting an eternal soulmate: Those who will choose to love Him and serve Him, in truth.
  • God the Father wants godly offspring, to fill all things with His glory and express His image, that He may be all in all.

31 “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” 32 This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church. Ephesians 5:31

Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. 2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. Revelation 21:1-2

And they shall live happily ever after. The End.

I think that's cheating.
He said the whole bible, every chapter.

You know how it is:
You can't pick and choose your verse!!

Catch you later.

Gee, thanks!
So thoughtful of you.

Maybe you could hang around for Revelation.
I'll never understand that book.

give then
OK Saintman.
You wrote back, so I guess you're serious.
So here goes...

JLB gave you a really good explanation of why God made us. Maybe He just needed someone to love, and love Him back.

So God was busy creating. He's a creator. He makes something out of nothing. No other being can do this. At some point He decided that He wanted to make something really special. So He made Man. Then, so man wouldn't be alone, He made Woman, who came from Man. She was to be a helpmate and she was also needed because God said they were to fill the earth, and this is how it is filled.

Now God knew that Man would not be able to obey Him. So from the very beginning He made a provision for this. His Son. But more on this later.

As things went on, people just became worse and worse. So the flood came upon the earth, but God spared Noah and his family. They were good people and maybe the earth population could just start all over again. But, alas, that didn't work either.
Man had a real problem. He had, and still has, evil inside of him.

So God thought to call out to Abraham. He told him to move from Ur to Haran and then to Caanan. He did this so He, God, could start a new family, and a very big one. But it took a long time, about 1,500 years for that to really start to happen.

Now the Hebrews inhabited the land of Caanan, which is Israel today. A great famine came upon the land and many moved to Egypt where life was much better and where Joseph had made friends with the Pharoah. Joseph called his family to Egypt and many others followed.

Soon the Pharoah died and some years later, when a different Pharoah was in power, he decided that the Hebrews should be made into slaves since there were so many of them. They remained slaves for almost 400 years.

Until Moses freed them. This story is in the great book of Exodus - the exit.
They survived the 10 plagues which God sent to Pharoah's people. They even survived the last one...The angel of death. He passed over the homes of the Hebrew slaves because they had killed a perfect lamb and smeared the lamb's blood around their doorway so that the angel of death would pass by and not harm them.

They spent 40 years in the desert of Sinai. During this time God gave Moses the 10 Commandments. They promised to obey God, but they couldn't. Sin was very strong in them and they had nothing to fight it.

Eventually, Moses died and they went into the Promised Land, Caanan. Joshua was a strong leader after Moses died. He was able to remove all the Caananites from the land so that it could belong to the Hebrews. And so they lived here for a long time.

They were governed by Judges. They were very strong in character and they were also very strong military men. At this time, the people believed that God was their King.

Now, during this time, everything that happened to the people was attributed to God. Even what He did not directly will to happen.

When the Hebrews got into trouble with neighboring enemies, God always rose up a Judge to help them.
Deborah, Gideon and Samson were some of the most famous Judges.

Ah, but eventually the Hebrews decided they wanted a King, just like their enemies had. About 1,000 years before Jesus was born, Saul was a great Judge that was inbetween the Judges period and the Kings period. The first King of Israel was Saul. Saul, David and Solomon were the most famous of Israel's Kings.

After Solomon and about 900 years before Jesus' birth, Israel was divided into two kingdome. Israel in the North and Judah in the South.

You might want to read the beautifu story of Ruth. The story of Job, who could not understand evil and why it exists.

We also have now Psalms, which were songs of praise, and poems to God and words of worship, thanksgiving, and also lamentations.

Proverbs teach many good things that God would want us to know.

Then come the Propets. Men chosen by God to declare His word and remind Israel of His existance and what He desires from His people. All the prophets are important and are listed in the bible by the length of their book, not by their importance. They all "forsaw" the coming of the Lord and spoke about Him.
These are the Prophets:
Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, Malachi.

Micah tells us where Jesus was going to be born in chapter 4:2
Isaiah tell us of the death of Jesus in chapters 52 and 53 and also in other places.
Jeremiah and Ezekiel tell us of how Jesus will save us and give us a new heart to follow Him. All this hudreds of years before Jesus was born...

Finally, about 2,000 years ago, Jesus was born to Mary and Joseph.
HE was the plan God had all along to save His people. The flood did not help,
the judges served their purpose but did not help, the kings did not help, the prophets did not help. Nothing helped.

Jesus is our help. He loved us so much that He died so that we could have our sins forgiven and so that we could have a heart made of flesh.

The 10 Commandments were written on stone, but Jesus' Commandments are written on our heart. And, when He left to go back to heaven, He left us with the Holy Spirit so that we could have help in keeping His commandments.

So this is the story of the bible.
God created us.
We are sinners.
We need help.
Jesus is our help.

We are God's family. Begun in Genesis with the marriage of Adam and Eve and ending with the great big family that God promised to Abraham.

If we choose to be His child, He will in no way turn us out.
And if we choose to be His child, we will be with Him forever.

It's hard to do a summery and give lots of detail. Wondering and JLB gave you good summaries with barring amounts of detail. But I recommend just reading the bible itself. I grew up reading the New Living Translation (NLT) and it was good because it was easy to read and understand without losing the merit of the message in the translation. So that's the one I'd recommend to you.

That's the only way I can recommend an understanding chapter by chapter. You can do it. Pray for God to guide you as you read it and He will. That way it will be easier to open up and read, and much easier to love and enjoy.
