Hey guys I was just wondering about him and why God wanted him to go and talk to Israel since I'm having a really tough time understanding it all. And I assume when the Lord gave him a book to go and "eat" obviously He didn't mean to go and literally eat the book right? Just absorb all of the information from it is what I'm guessing,

your in a tough Book parts you will understand parts will drive you nuts to understand..you need a good reference Bible and study Bible . much is symbolic

Ezra is right as Ezekiel uses prophecies, parables, signs and symbols to dramatize God's message to His exiled people. as this was a time when Nebuchadnezzar destroyed Jerusalem. First in 605B.C., second time in 597B.C. and the third time in 586B.C.

I would like to suggest you buy The Opened Bible to go along with the one you use as it outlines every chapter in the Bible and before each book gives an explanation like the snippet I just gave you. I think you would like The Opened Bible for everything it contains and has so many wonderful facts, a topical index, a concordance, maps, archaeological discoveries and even has a section where answers are given to many questions that have been asked by others. I know I love mine as it does make studying a little simpler.

Hey guys I was just wondering about him and why God wanted him to go and talk to Israel...

The nation of Israel had sinned:

He said, “Human, I am sending you to the people of Israel. That nation has turned against me and broken away from me. They and their ancestors have sinned against me until this very day. Ezekiel 2:3 NCV

Ezekiel was sent to warn them to repent, so that they could live:

After seven days the Lord spoke his word to me again. He said, “Human, I now make you a watchman for Israel. Any time you hear a word from my mouth, warn them for me. When I say to the wicked, ‘You will surely die,’ you must warn them so they may live. Ezekiel 3:16-18a NCV

Thanks for explaining that to me and making things a bit clearer than they were before. :)

One thing to keep in mind is Ezekiel is a priest who served in the temple prior to the exile. He is writing while in exile.
Much of his language derives from his time serving in the temple and the ideas that are represented by the temple objects.

If you go back to Exodus where God told Moses how to construct and furnish the tabernacle, God uses the word, "copy of heavenly things" to describe both the temple and its furnishings.

Most NT Christian's dont spend any time really studying the construction of these items, so we miss most of the imagery.

For example, in the Holy of Holies sat the Ark of the Covenant with two cherubim above it. David, in the Psalms describes it as Mt. Sinai when Israel made the covenant, and the mountain was smoking, and chariots with cherubim were flying around it. Ezekiel pulls from this imagery.

If you're going to bring up Ezekiel, why skip chapter 1?

I'll guarantee you that changed Ezekiel such that he was never the same after that.

This book is really hard to tackle if you haven't already gotten everything you can from the NT first.

After that, reading Ezekiel will help you get more out of the NT when you go back to it ...
