Faith like building a house?

In Christ

Member
I live in a neighborhood where there are new houses being built regulalrly. The view from my office currently overlooks such a project. I was sitting here today, minding my own buisness, Kinda zoneing out. Then the following thought comes to my mind.

When difficult times are present, faith is like a foundation to a house--It is needed to to keep it/you up."

Is this not the most bizzare, random thought? My wife and I are currently gong through a difficult time of trying to get pregnant, but I have no idea where this thought came from. Could it have been God talking to me? I don't feel like he ever did that to me. Thoughts?:chin

There are places in the Bible where foundations of houses and buildings are used as illustrations.

Luke 6:46-49: "46 “Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you? 47 Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: 48 he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. 49 But the one who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the stream broke against it, immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great.” " (ESV)

Psalms 118:22: "The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone." There are many references to this in the NT (e.g. Act 4:11, Ephesians 2:19-22)

Matthew 16:18: "And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."

I think something deeper might also be said about the temple (God's house) and the "house" of David (2 Samuel 7).
