I figured I wwould resurrect this thread.
I saw Fantastic Four with my 11 year old son on opening day. I usually see movies like these in advance of taking my children to see them, but I figured that it was a classic Marvel hero screen adaptation, and so it would be good clean fun.
I am partial to the classic Marvel comicbook superhero movies like Xmen, Spiderman, Hulk, Daredevil, etc. The Marvel heroes have always been so much more down-to-earth than DC Comic heroes.
That beings said, FF was a very poor movie. The special effects were ok, but I definitely expected more. The entire movie seemed very rushed, and I felt it could have been approached very differently. The bulk of the movie concentrated on the origins of their powers, and their coming to grips with their new abilities. But it's almost as if the writers wrote about the FF's origins and then realized that they should write in a villain to add some excitement to the last 1/2 hour of the movie. I felt that the origins could have been accomplished through flashbacks or a quick synopsis, and more attention could've been given to a plot.
From a Christian parent's perspective, I found the movie less than desirable for my son to watch. There were a few profanities in it. Also, while I can understand that the character of Johnny Storm was supposed to be a carefree action-seeking young adult, at times I cringed when they played up his womanizing. Finally, there's a scene where Ben Grimm wonders something about God, and Alicia Masters refers to God as a "she."
Ok action and FX. Poor plot. Suggestive language.
Two thumbs down.
