Well, what did everyone do for Fathers day?
My wife made me breakfast in bed
Then we went to church, had an excellent time there and came home for some juicy tenderloin!
Talked with my daughter for a bit on the phone and then took a really nice mid day nap! Unfortunately, I woke up to find an empty house as my wife let me sleep while she went to church.
So, I figured I'd replace the second leaf spring in her Jeep. Been meaning to get to that for several weeks now, and it should only take about an hour and a half. Saturday I spent a good portion of the day cleaning out the garage and sorting stuff, so I was in the mood for some tinkering anyway.
Well, things didn't work out the way I planned... not even close. I really, really hate michigan rust. The front bolt would not come out, so I thought that the nut welded inside the frame pocket broke loose and was spinning, so I cut a hole in the pocket, but the nut was intact. So I ended up cutting the spring out with a cutting wheel and at 11 pm, the spring was finally out! At 11:30 I realized, after struggling to put the new spring in to no avail and I have not gotten that mad from working on cars in a long, long time, that the threads on the nut were stripped and of course, I didn't have a tap big enough to fix it. Needless to say, my wife wasn't going to work on Monday.
I did get my tap yesterday and it took about 40 minutes to tap the nut, weld a patch over the hole in the pocket I cut, undercoat it and install the spring. Woot woot! I love it when I win!
In all, I had a pretty good Fathers day and I'm thankful I have such a wonderful wife.
