We went to a pizza parlor the night before last, and I enjoyed it so much I was inspired to start a poll about pizza. I though, if Tim can start polls then so can I. :-D

I choose Custom Combination because I had a wonderful pizza that was grilled chicken, pineapple, and jalapenos. I loved it, and I wish I had some right now. :-D

Mushrooms, peppers, olives, basil, and lots of red onion. No meat and no cheese.

Recipe straight from my italian friend:

1. Pizza Dough - plain flour, few drops of olive oil, water, yeast

mix ingrediants, let rise a few hours.

2. Sauce - canned tomato sauce, 2 tbl spoon olive oil, fresh basil, fresh parsley, salt and pepper to taste. (or if u have time sautee a whole garlic clove in 2 tbspoon of olive oil, discard the garlic and add a can of whole tomato blended to slightly chunky, 3/4 cup water, pork neck bone, fresh parsley and basil, salt n pepper to taste and cook for a couple hours adding water if needed)

3. After dough rises, spread out on an oiled pan. Bake in oven to nearly done. Remove from oven, spread olive oil on top. Put desired amount of sauce on. Then slice mozzarella di bufala on top.

4. Put back in oven until sauce and cheese bubbles.

Remove and eat!

A few more toppings for those who want more:

Prosciutto and mushroom
Home made meatballs (hamburger and sausage, eggs, bread crumbs, fresh parsley, ramano)
black olives and sundried tomatoe
goat cheese, pesto (instead of tomato), sundried tomato

Vault...I am going to try it next time we make pizza...I'll let you know. It sounds good. I must be hungry. :-D

I chose Deluxe because the hubby loves it all. Just make sure there are extra anchovies & pineapple on it!

Steve...every time I go to Wal-Mart to get one of their own pizzas they are sold out! :smt100
All my friends say it's one of the best. Just have to get 2 containers of anchovies to have ymmies in my tummy.

NO CHEESE?????????

WHAT? Isn't that illegal or something? My motto growing was, "There's no such thing as too much cheese".

It is great with just the cheese and sauce. The trick is to make sure you use fresh mozz and slice it, not grate it. It should cover the pizza similar to how a pepperoni covers a pizza. Little slices of it making sure to not put so much that you cover the entire pizza.

That way you get a chance to taste the dough, sauce, and cheese, instead of regular american pizza which is mostly toppings (which is good as well :) I like my double meats and double cheese pizzas. )

I have a full blown recipe for her family tomato sauce as well that is used for pasta if anyone wants it. It takes forever to make, uses quite a few different meats (lamb, sausage, meatballs, pork necks), and your back is a bit achey when your done from standing, but you are greatly rewarded when you toss it with some ziti and sprinkle some fresh romano and parm on top.

btw, once you start me on Italian cooking or food, I generally do not shut up.

Yes! I have influenced the masses...or maybe just lovely! I like a Cheese Pizza with just the right amount of grease. Is Grease a pizza topping?

No dairy products for me. Cheese used to be one of my favorite foods (Havarti on a cracker FTW) but I don't even miss it now. Sad, I know.

My bad David. Didn't even consider it may not be an option.
Havarti? NOW yer a talkin'. Just had some for lunch. Turkey & Havarti on whole grain.

No worries. I can enjoy it vicariously. :-D
I was a big cheese guy (in more ways than one).

Ever try Cotswold? It wouldn't be good on pizza. It's kind of a cheddar and chive mixture... I don't miss it. :o

I live for cheese.

The sharper or smellier the better. I can just eat a block of parm or romano plain, but blue cheese is one of my fav.

Just got turned on to something I had never tried, "Dublin Cheese". Its in the deli area of my local mart. Tastes like parm but a bit more delicate.

I like a good veggie pizza loaded with black olives, peppers, onions, mushrooms, grilled tomatoes... and lots of cheese.

Tim I never knew about the grease toppings, sounds real healthy. Leave it to you to come up with such stuff.

Pepperoni and olives. Simple, classic and good. Washed down with Pepsi, of course!

However, lets not forget the most important part: The crust! Perhaps there could be an addendum to the poll, should the crust be New York (thin, like soggy cardboard :smt078 ) or Chicago (real bread, the staff of life :smt023 )? Give me Chicago style every time!

Staff of life FTW!
We use half whole wheat and half white bread flour for our crusts.
They rise about an inch or more on the edge and taper down (slightly) in the middle.

There are times to eat healthy, and a good pizza is not one of them. A good Pizzeria Pizza requires an extra napkin for the grease. :)

Use olive oil and lowfat mozzarella; you'll benefit from the olive oil and you won't miss the difference in the cheese. :-D
