Feast of Passover and Unleaven Bread.

Yes I know we as believers in Christ don't have to follow the Old Testament Feasts.
But I have always thought what great lessons we lose from not paying any honour to them, and our Jewish Heritage.

So the Passover started at sunset Monday Apr. 18, and the Feast of Unleavened Bread at sunset tonight. So I was wondering if you as a believer were doing anything to celebrate these Jewish Holidays.

Purge out therefore the old leavened that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us:
I Corinthians 5:7

Actually, yesterday (Monday) was Passover (i.e. the 14th of Aviv), and today is the first day of Unleavened Bread. I attended a Passover Seder last night. I'll be eating unleavened bread this week.

Theo, Passover did not begin until sunset (Nissan 14), our yesterday evening. Yesterday was what we would call Passover Eve, the day of preparation and the day of the fast of the firstborn. Today (Nissan 15) is the first full day of Passover.

As I understand it, Passover is the day that the Passover lambs were sacrificed, which, if the temple still existed, would have been yesterday. The word Passover can also be used for the entire week of Unleavened Bread, so it's really a matter of symantics.

Me and my stupid questions again. I have been wondering about ‘unleavened’ bread lately. Why unleavened? What is the significance?

l'Chante, you haven't asked a stupid question! Don't put yourself down like that...

There are a few meanings, but the first one that comes to mind is that leaven represents sin. Jesus is the Bread of Heaven who is the sinless One. His body was broken for us.

John 6:32-33 NLT
Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, Moses didn’t give you bread from heaven. My Father did. And now he offers you the true bread from heaven. The true bread of God is the one who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”

(Mat 16:5-12 KJV) - "(5) And when his disciples were come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread. (6) Then Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees. (7) And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have taken no bread.

. o O (( I like these guys! )) --> "It's because we have taken no bread. That's why he said 'beware the leaven of the Pharisees', it's because we forgot to take food with us for the journey."

(8) Which when Jesus perceived, he said unto them, O ye of little faith, why reason ye among yourselves, because ye have brought no bread? (9) Do ye not yet understand, neither remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets ye took up? (10) Neither the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?

. o O (( Hmmmm... is he hungry or not? I can fetch some bread, I'm not doing anything ))

(11) How is it that ye do not understand that I spake it not to you concerning bread, that ye should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees?

. o O (( Oh! I get it. The Doctrine is the leaven.))

(12) Then understood they how that he bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees."

Jesus taught about the Kingdom of God and used leaven in the analogy:

(Luk 13:18-21 KJV) - "(18) Then said he, Unto what is the kingdom of God like? and whereunto shall I resemble it? (19) It is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and cast into his garden; and it grew, and waxed a great tree; and the fowls of the air lodged in the branches of it. (20) And again he said, Whereunto shall I liken the kingdom of God? (21) It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened."

We are preparing a feast for our Master. There are many analogies and allegories that show hidden things. When Christians join together and talk about the things that God is doing in them, showing them --> that very thing is sharing the meal that is set before us, the Bread of Life.

(1Cr 2:7-12 KJV) - "(7) But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: (8) Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. (9) But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. (10) But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. (11) For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. (12) Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God."

And if you would know God be not therefore a solver of riddles.
Rather look about you and you shall see Him playing with your children.

~Kahlil Gibran, from his book, The Prophet

Thanks, guys. :adore Your responses brought up another question. Our minister said that if you are in the need of communion and you don't have bread and wine with you, you can use juice and cookies / rusks etc because it is not so much what you are eating and drinking, but the need to be with the Lord is a special way that matters.
