In fact, the increase in the number of people who retain the median artery into adulthood is precisely what evolution is. "Descent with modification" as Darwin put it. It's what evolution is, by definition. It should be interesting to find what genes are responsible for the evolved extra artery.

It's not as huge an evolutionary change as (for example) those Adriatic island lizards that evolved a new digestive organ in a few decades, but it's still a clear demonstration of evolution.
