Feeling Welcomed At Church

Get better quick! Glad you didn't have a concussion. I've got a pastor friend that had a bad concussion and it affected him so much he had to give up his ministry for a few years while he recovered. :-( Thank God you're ok!

Welcome back, Rachel :wave

If the headache kicks up into existence again, call your doctor right away. Even though you were not diagnosed with a concussion, you could have actually suffered a mild concussion. And long term ramifications, as Obadiah pointed out, could be serious. You're in my prayers!

Sorry I have not been on in a few days. I ended up hitting my head not long after posting this thread and had to go to the ER after a few hours of being really sick from it. I ended up not having a concussion but I am still recovering, thankfully I can now do the computer without hurting my head more. I will try to catch up with the posts now.

Rachel: Hope you'll stay well.

Blessings.

Yeah, the doctor gave me some things to look for just in case. Thankfully I am continuing to improve so I think I will be okay!

Thanks, everyone!

It's not that there's more emphasis on food than doctrine, but food and drink is like the first thing that should go along with the handshake (to me at least). Scripture speaks of this. To feed and give drink to anyone who comes under your roof. This is simply being a good host and certainly makes one feel welcomed. (Europeans are big on this. My ex taught me early on that being a good host is very important) It's really distressing to go to someones house and not even be offered a drink. The Lords house is the house of houses!

Anyone who offers me a drink when I come over is good people in my book. And if they offer me a donut? They just soared to the top of the ladder!

The church that Deborah 13 referred me to here in the Springs (Charis Christian Center) gave me a very warm welcome the last two Sundays. Coffee and donuts, handshakes walking in and out, members of the congregation approaching me and saying hi with a handshake, lots of eye contact, coffee and donuts...they really know how to make a guy feel welcome! The Spirit is strong in that church and her people. The doctrine is good, but first things first. A proper welcome, a cup of coffee, a warm welcome, some lifting up of our voices in praise unto God in Hymns...and then I was ready to listen to a message with more enthusiasm than if I had not been welcomed in such a way.

I think it is very important as well, with balance. I have been to many church and most of them do not have the proper balance so that they think making people feel comfortable is more important than sound teaching or those who push others away and say they only want sound teaching. I believe that we should have both sound teaching and try to make people feel welcomed, as I believe it is shown in the Bible.

Still looking for a good church, the last church I was in didn't really seem to want me and my wife there, nobody greeted us, and after trying to start a conversation with a few people i understood this was not a church for me. I still miss my church in the other city, we were only 10 people generally, but always open to newcomers. We also spent alot of time entertaining the seniors at the hospital 5min away with music, jokes and sweets.

I'm saving money to go to the US and scout the country, I have been too 26 different countries but never the US and I want to see if its a good place to live. And if the Churches are as good as you people say they are :)

It is a big problem when people don't make newcomers feel wanted, I have had that many times.

Maybe before you come to the US you could look online to find some churches of your denomination that seem to fit your needs. When we were finding a church having a church that was theologically sound, fit church models that we believe to be Biblical, had welcoming kind people, close by so we could be a part of things, and that we could serve our church and community to were some of the most important things to us. FIC (Family Integrated Church) was very important to us as well but there was a great lack of FIC close by that fit our other requirements so we were willing to give that up, but the Lord brought us to a church that met everything we see as important.

Rachel: (above) sounds good. Blessings.
