Firefox Fans! - What are your Favorite Add-ons and Why?

Mike

Member
I love using Firefox, mostly because of its flexibility. There are so many choices of free add-ons to choose from, it almost "feels infinite". :thumbsup

What are some of the Firefox add-ons that you find most useful or just plain COOL??

I Like:

AdBlock Plus - NO MORE ADS ON CFNET (or anywhere else)!!

Speed Dial - You click on it and a screen pops up with your favorite sites arranged in boxes. These are updated daily by default (you can adjust this) so when the screen pops up, each site within the box shows what's currently showing up on the sites. You can scroll down and up within each box. You can also configure how many boxes that show up on the screen. There's an option that I love. When clicking the + sign on a new tab, the new tab opens up to your Speed Dial screen! :thumbsup

AniWeather - Very flexible, you can choose what you'd like to have showing up in your tool bar (current weather, 1-day through 4-day forecasts, a map of your country showing weather patterns. It's also animated, which is just kinda neat!

Grab It - Allows you to copy your screen or crop and copy only part of it, or you can select "save" and it will save it as an image.

Give us all some of your tips!! Which FF add-ons do you like.

If anyone wants to email me (or another member) with questions about certain add-ons and how to make them function, feel free to PM me. I'm happy to help. Hitch, there are no subscriptions. You just install them, and then restart Firefox. At that point you can tinker with options.

I was hoping other members could suggest add-ons that they have found useful. I offered up a few that I like, and I'm sure there are some I haven't found that are great! There are so many to choose from!

So let's hear it. What add-ons are worth installing??

I just installed Cooliris. It looks "cool", but I'm still learning how it works.

Thanks Mike! I might check speed dial.

I love the web developer toolbar. Ony useful for tech guys, it helps us manipulate styles, images and javascript on a website. Pretty cool. Also, Firebug is great for web developing and troubleshooting, but again, only for web-gurus that love toying with stuff.

I'm happy to help if people are having trouble wiith Firefox. :yes

Yeah. Please let me know if its possible to make the boxes in speed dial just show icons. I cant read whats on the little pages other than the titles anyway.

I havne't got that add-on yet, so Mike might be able to help you there.

But I reckon it's a good bet if you go to the Tools menu, then click add-ons. Click the extensions tab, and scroll until you see speed dial. If you click it, you may see an options button. Click that and you may be able to toggle some features.

I offered the PM avenue, but since you persist.. ;)

There's no way to change the boxes to icons. That would defeat part of the main purpose of Speed Dial. But you can change the number of boxes that appear on the page (and you can have more than one group). I have mine set to 3x3, and they're big enough to distinguish which is which. So, go to your menu at the top... Tools... Add-on's... click on Speed Dial. From there you have all your options. Click on Defaults at the top, and then change the numbers in each row/column.

It shouldn't be so difficult to distinguish between boxes. Are your boxes so small that you can't tell which is which?

I like to be able to click open a new tab and have this come up. To set this, click on Main at the the top and check the box that says "Load in blank new tabs".

btw, at this very moment I am downloading firefox 4 beta!

GET EXCITED PEOPLE!

I tried the beta version for a while. Too many bugs. It drops add-ons, forcing me to re-install them when I restart (sometimes), and many add-ons aren't compatable with FF4 yet. I haven't deleted it, but I've gone back to using the established version until it comes up to speed.

I tried many different sizes and came to the conclusion set forth below

Hey I 'got' the adblock thing :).

The speed dial though, I can tell which is which but I cant come close to reading the font, so its hard to see the point. On this specific I prefer the IE version that shows about 1/4 " square with an icon., in the Favorites Bar, not requiring a seperate page.

The colored tabs are nice.

Today Im using IE, but then I've never owned a cell phone or used an ATM....

Yep. Same here. I posted that as I was donwloading it. It's fail. But that's why it's a beta release. I'm going to stick to 3.6 until the proper 4 comes out. But from what I've seen it'll look good.

FYI

Been having some trouble with BibleGateway. On and off, sometimes it worked fine then for no reason the filters wouldnt apply.

Finally realized the problems only came up when I was on Fox.

Working fine for me.
Are you talking about adblocker?

Thats working fine

At BibleGateway the 'Keyword' search on its own reverts back to 'New Testament' , I was searching for something in Joshua and it kept comng up Matthew. I did discover a manual fix.

In the mean, I was using IE and that problem didnt come up.
I just tested it and its still doing it.

Only the 'Keyword' search was affected.

Other than this little bug it seems to be working fine, and if I can get it....

That's weird. I've never had that problem. Perhaps you should try and re-install Firefox.
