FLDS & polygamy

Hi everybody! I know the FLDS have been on the national news lately with the raid in Texas, and since I'm from Utah (No I'm Not Mormon) I know a lot about both the LDS and FLDS faiths and would be happy to answer any and all questions you may have.

Why do those women look so harried and dreary? I understand they are supposedly emulating our pioneer foremothers but look at old pictures: our great-great grandmothers and such were robust, steadfast, somewhat grim at times like the FLDS women but you could see "that old woman made that farm keep going!" I think the weight of service to a cult must bear down on them.

You have to understand that in their "world" the only purpose women serve is to have children. They are not allowed to speak unless spoken to, think for themselves or look any different from one another. It's a very sad state. Please pray for them all.

Time 1890

In order to become a state the LDS church had to give up polygamy. So, to keep things on the square the prophet of the time (I don't recollect his name) had a revelation from God that polygamy was no longer to be practiced. Most followed the words of the prophet, some didn't. Those that didn't fled from the authorities into other parts of the country becoming known as the "Fundemental Latter Day Saints" in 1930.

WOW! Thanks for the info.... that's very interesting.... I guess "God" made a mistake with the first revelation about polygamy!

"OOOOPS.... My bad!" - God

Hehe... I don't mean to make fun.... ok..... yes, Ido.

The Mormons don't call them mistakes. They are classified under "Progressive Revelation". God would want the LDS church to keep abreast with the times I suppose.

And what do YOU say about this.... can God go back on his word when the "times" see fit... or is God's word eternal?

Great answers potluck! Oh the "prophet" that had that "revelation" was Lorenzo Snow, who had more than 20 wives himself! Also the mainstream LDS do still believe in polygamy they just don't practice it openly, but it's still in their cannon (Doctrine and covenants 132). They now only do plural marriages for the dead.

The FLDS and LDS church is just another corrupted Christian religion that has lost sight of the truth due to ignorance and lack of Bible study.
