For Alabaster

That is some great looking stuff there, I love it. Hey do you have any Gothic looking buildings or churches up there ? Or how about Roman or Greek style churches ?

Yes, we do. We have a huge Roman Catholic Church called the Cathedral of Christ the King.

That's cool, Lewis! I should put Philadelphia on my list of places to see!

Here is a famous homestead we have called Dundurn Castle. It is now a museum, fully restored and working 'household' right downtown.

Now that is absolutely fantastic,Alabaster I would be snooping around that building for a week. Who else out there on this board has some hometown art or architecture to show ? If you do please post it.

The same site also holds the Battlefield Monument commemorating the Battle of Stoney Creek in a battle in 1813, where the Americans were repelled!

Wow that Stoney Creek edifice is one heck of a strange and wonderful looking structure, it's strangeness makes it very attractive. And the other picture looks like some of the southern buildings and home here in the USA.

I remember having my 5th or 6th birthday party on the grounds beneath that monument and the house at Battlefield Park! It is a tourist attraction, for sure, and they have yearly re-enactments there of that battle, also.

I find every work a joy to take in. Not one of them is obtrusive!

Have there ever been any people voice opposition about these murals?

No Philadelphians welcomed them because they made the city more of a art town and the murals took care of bad looking spots in the city. And they like being number one not only in the USA but in the world in outdoor art. The number has reached almost 3000 so they are a everyday thing here in Philly, it is the norm to see them. It is normal to see groups of artist scouting out places to paint one. Now this spring and this summer they will be painting them in as many places as they can like they do every spring and summer. We have people come here who don't even live here just to paint a mural so that their art can be seen and they can express themselves and it also gives them publicity. And the kids in Philadelphia art schools just has a field day painting murals. And the city just loves it, and for now there is no end in sight.

Wow I really like that one up there with the car in it. Hey maybe you could start one of those programs up there. You would be surprised at the people who would like a nice mural on the side or the front of their buildings. It only takes one person to get the ball to rolling, and you could be that person.

I am pretty sure there must be some sort of group here that has street murals as its interest. When I am ready to participate, I am going to look into it. Right now I am not fit enough to do something like that, but I am working on it!
