For the law was given by Moses, grace (God's undeserved, unearned and unmerited favor) and truth came by Jesus Christ. John 1:17 Note it does not put truth on the side of Law but of grace.
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1
Faith is the belief that in the eternal realm the things that are invisible to our eyes are not only true and real but can be received by means of faith. What we can receive by faith depends on what we believe. If we believe, for instance, that we are sinful and in need of constant repentance, then we are. (Jesus said, "According to your faith be it unto you." Mat 9:29)
Jesus, the Lamb of God, came to take away the sin of the world. John 1:29 John did not say "sins" but "sin". So He was not speaking of breaking the 10 commandments, else he would've said, "sins" meaning of each person. The SIN of the world was rejection of God and of Jesus Christ.
So, how did He take away the SIN? By mighty miracles, He made believers in Himself from idol worshippers, the self-righteous religious, ordinary sinners like tax collectors, prostitutes and you and me. He took away the SIN by His works and by believers' faith in Him.
If that wasn't enough, He allowed Himself to be beaten, whipped, mocked, scorned, battered and bloodied and then nailed to a Cross, making Himself a curse. Deut 21:22 and Gal 3:13
Gal adds in that chapter: Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree.
So, for we who believe in Him, Christ has removed from us the curse of the Law. No longer is sin causing death to us. Now, through faith in Him, EVERY sin we'd ever commit, past, present, or future was AND IS being cleansed CONTINUOUSLY by that precious Blood He allowed to pour from Himself for us. Not through our confessing and crying over our sins but by HIs blood!
All our sins were future when He was nailed to the Cross. His first words on the Cross were, "Father, forgive them. They know not what they do".
We are forgiven JUST as if we'd never sinned (we are justified) or would! By faith we believe this and rejoice over it.
Or we can continue to believe and behave as if we were loaded down with sin and suffer condemnation at every turn.
With the first, we have favor with God because of Jesus, with the last we have unending misery because every misstep or wrong thought condemns us and we confess and weep and moan but turn around and sin again.
With faith in His work on the Cross, though, we can live, breathe and have our being in Him knowing that as we behold Him we are being changed into that very same image. From GLORY TO GLORY! HALLELUJAH! And we are free from consciousness of sin by that same FAITH, believing that His blood is always working to cleanse us. By that faith, we live free, whole, complete and perfected in Him.
I believe this and am in process of living it. Of living free from guilt and shame, free from consciousness of sin, free from all but the love I gladly have for my dear Jesus, and my Heavenly Daddy (Abba) Who loved me so much He gave His ONLY Begotten Son for even me!
