First off I'm excluding all American cars prior to 1980.

Why in general do you believe foreign cars are better then American cars?

Who says I do.
Or it that a requirement to answer the title of this thread?

I posted this based on the general knowledge that by nature until recently American cars got less then 30 mpg then foreign cars and still by large do as Honda sells more higher mpg cars then American cars.ie 45 mpg Honda accord.

The hybrids have been excluded. I'm not including trucks as Japanese usually haven't sold their large trucks to america.they make them

Keep talking and keep narrowing it down and what do we got?

Good question.
I have a Toyota.
Maybe the Japs have more knowledge on them 4 cylinders.
I know you have excluded them, but I love the old muscle cars in the 60's and 70's.
Simple, without all that computer chips and such.

Why do we assume electronics is thar hard? I used to but it's not generally.
It does take more knowledge but it's really basic. The components for circuits hasn't changed since the 50s,just what they make it out of.a transistor is an invention of the 50s.still in use .they are used to control fans, other motors, servos that are electric over hydraulic, ie solenoid.

Don't get me wrong it can be frustrating. I have fought that battle

I'm being fair.I can't compare my truck size to a full size as I can't use it for thar but I can compare it to the ranger, the Sonoma s 10,Dakota

And, good grief, them sensors.
A light comes on if you did not screw your gas cap tight enough, lol.

Emissions, I have a degree on this. The ecm puts a vacuum on the tank and knows if there's is a leak

The downside is more tools,schooling.

Im leery of hybrids.not because incapable but because of ignorance. It would require schooling plus more tools to work on some parts of those cars

Yep
A mechanic has always have to school himself, with all the new gadgets.
I still wouldn't trust those driveless cars.

You already probably think you still command that gas .you dont.depending on your car if it has electric steering you are in the same.the computer sees the requests and acts accordingly.

I like to be in command, lol.

I'm not fan of driverless cars but unless you fly a fighter jet ,a turbo prop .you arent in control. The pilots monitor on landing and make inputs and take over only when needed.only take off is fully independent. A passenger jet relies on navigation signals from the faa and gps.they have no radar.only military jets do.they have their own maps and navigation system separate from the faa.this is how jets were forced to land during 9112001

Going to dinner .I will post how dimmer switches work now

So I wonder, just what cars are actually "American" anymore? My Ford Truck was built in Canada. So many of our cars with American company names on them are either built in another country or are actually a car designed and built by a foreign car manufacturer simply renamed with the American name. Even my beloved 28 year old "American" Harley Davidson has quite a number of parts made in foreign countries and I've heard the newer ones are almost completely foreign made with the only exception that the final assembly is done here in the USA. That hardly qualifies them as "American made" in my book!

So I'm not even sure what cars on the road today are actually, truly, American made cars anymore. Are there any at all?

Your jap cars are 90% made in america.so when you buy them they are sold to you from America. Ie Honda of America sells only to america.
