Foreign cars versus american

First off I'm excluding all American cars prior to 1980.

Why in general do you believe foreign cars are better then American cars?
Well you omitted the best cars in the op. nothing left to brag about.

Well I can go buy a 57 chevy today. Yes fir restored price of 100,000 grand.chump change.

Or for scrap and spend that to get them running.I picked this as most ,even those that restore them don't use them for everyday driving.I know my brother in law in that business and has a few.

It's directed to cars thar are fir today that aren't antiques.thought a 1980 ford Ltd is now one.

I know what you meant in the op. I was just being a thorn in your side.
but it dont take 100 grand to rebuild one.
My 77 chevy 4x4 I replaced
tires and rims
rear brake hose drums wheel cylinders brake lines
front hose callipers pads brake lines
coil springs shocks muffler system exhaust manifolds
had trans redone at a shop
had 4x4 trans done at shop
had radiator done at shop
new crate motor intake carb distributer
new battery alternator starter ps pump steering wheel dash and windshield
new sound proof matt on floor new seat covers
new paint job at shop
done most work my self got 12 to 14 grand in it
so one can have a Nice ride for less than 100 grand
but today I would co for a 2015 Camaro zl1

Assuming you have a nice body.remember did you get it to car show specs?bondo is a no no.the sell body panels. They do check that.
If you noticed I said for every day driving it wouldn't be worth that.ie if your 77 was wrecked ,will your insurance pay you that 12 grand? If not.that wasn't worth that .that the problem.I saw a 63 ford f 100 for 4500.I could get that but why.when it will need body work for sure.more money to paint it then I just bought if its that bad.

Certain cars like Toyota hold up better. A Benz a Audi they hold up better. America makes some good cars, but you better check with Consumer Reports before you buy one, and they will tell you, and they are spot on when it comes to that.

I don't think it's any big secret that the US wasn't producing a quality vehicle that could compete with the foreign car manufactures, especially in the small car segment. Hands down, foreign cars were simply more reliable the older they became.

Right now we are seeing a turnaround with American cars as the focus is now on the consumer in terms of Safety, Quality and Reliability.
The CEO of General Motors put it best in this interview, "No more crappy cars" http://www.mbtmag.com/videos/2013/10/no-more-crappy-cars-gm

American Auto Manufactures are all bringing jobs back to the US including jobs in I.T., engineering and manufacturing.

As far as MPG and EPA requirements, American Auto Manufactures are on target to meet and exceed federal regulations in these areas with General Motors taking the lead as seen with their 2016 Camaro turbocharged 4 banger crossing the quarter mile in 14 seconds and promising 30 mpg hwy driving... not to shabby.

At a price of a home, jeff.even though some jap cars are as costly.

No thanks. I looking at cars.40 grand in the 90s was luxury now it's middle class.

I'm not understanding jasonc

Each segment and class has a targeted low and high selling price and as you may know, a segment is a niche in the market where all competitors bid for that sell. As an easy example, we know that the Camaro is in the same segment as the Mustang and each sub-segment is competitively priced.

BTW, you can get a Chevy Sonic or Hyundai Accent for under $15,000 or, for under $13,000 you could get a Chevy Spark or MItsubishi Mirage.

My point is, each class and segment has it's competitors. When asking if a Foreign car is better than an American car, it's also a good idea to keep the cars in their proper segment. For example, you wouldn't put a 2003 VW Passat up against a 2003 Chevy Malibu because their price points don't match. You get what you pay for so of course the VW Passat is a much better car in the long run for durability. (Stainless Steel brake lines vs. steel brake lines etc)

I would add a base line VW Passat vs. a base line Malibu, the $2,000 price gap might be something to consider ;-)

I didn't go into German cars .I'm not thar impressed by them.look up what Volkswagen means.idiots that buy them cab save money buy going to Germany pay for the conversions and tariff.soldiers often would buy them in Germany and still save 20 grand.

We had this conservation about a vw a while back.

I wouldn't buy a car that cheap.look at the lack of room ,not to mention. No spare.been there with my daughter when she bought a nissan versa .she had the same room in her old car.she made the best decision with the dodge.living up on NC requires a 4wd .

Again jasonc , what other car in it's segment do you like? Is it the Malibu, Camry, Focus?
It's more of what is need.focus, hell no.I worked on those. We have one at work.one of three.not fir what we do.but the other 2 aren't in my dept.I did see that the accent wasn't that bad.i figured here it would be 20 grand.
The issue is whether my wife will like it.I'm a truck man.I have reasons for my need.

Camry my brother has one.I haven't driven nor worked on his.it's a 14.

Yeah, I'll tell ya... truck prices are through the roof! I can't believe how much they cost!
I don't know that I would want a truck with an aluminum frame though... Time will tell how that works out huh? The Tundra seems to fair well long term. Solid truck with good torque. The new 1500 is pretty stout as well.
