Do we need to repent of our sins before we can expect to be forgiven, or is it okay to continue to commit the sins we want to be forgiven for?

What do you believe? What is your position?

This is the Apologetics and Theology forum where.....
"This section deals with the study and practice of Theology and Apologetics. When posting or answering post in this section, users are asked to state clearly what the theological subject is, and why it is true or not true. Questions can be asked regarding the theology or the apologetic defense for the theology."

I couldn't find any other forum on this site to ask this question, and it seemed like the question needed to be asked. I like to encourage Christians to discuss important issues. Is that allowed on this website?

You can ask questions in the Lounge. You can ask questions in the sub-forum in this Apologetics section under Questions for Christians. Debating is not allowed and only Christians will answer your questions. I can move this thread there if you would like or you can leave it here and add to your statement as to why you believe what you believe. For example scripture for your proof of your argument?

You should encourage people to discuss theology, not make it difficult. Here is some proof we need to repent:

From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.". Matt 4:17 RSV

Yes, we definitely need to repent about who Jesus is. That He is the Lord and our only Salvation.
That by God's grace through faith in Jesus Christ we are saved. Why do we need a Savior, because we are sinners and all our righteousness is as filthy rags.

We need to repent of our sin. Put another way, we need to learn what sins we are committing and stop committing them.

We should do our best to follow Jesus, sin often prevents us from doing this. Jesus' forgiveness is not conditionally our reciving it is.

1. No we do not need to repent our sins before we can expect to be forgiven.

10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 11 None of them shall teach his neighbor, and none his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them. 12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds[b] I will remember no more.”[c]
13 In that He says, “A new covenant,” He has made the first obsolete. Now what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away. Hebrews 8:10-13 NKJV

2. No it's not okay to continue to commit sins!

23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23 NKJV

When sin becomes full-grown, it gives birth to death! James 1:14-15 ESV
