2Timothy 2:4-6
The parables of the soldier, athlete, and farmer are a formula for spiritual growth, leadership, and one way of how we are to spread the gospel. These parables work together as a chain and are incomplete without each other. The soldier teaches us that we must focus on Gods word. The athlete teaches us that we must obey Gods word. The farmer teaches us that we must work hard at growing Gods word within us because we cannot give others what we have not ourselves partaken of.
God has enlisted us as soldiers. If we focus on the battle itself we lose focus on the task at hand. There are others who are relying on the task God has given us. Like a soldier we must focus on the task that has been given us so that the other soldiers can accomplish the task that has been given them. We are all different parts of one body and so we must focus on the function of our part. This is similar to the lesson of Peter when he was walking on water toward Jesus. As long as he focused on Jesus he could do the imposable. When he allowed the circumstances of this world to distract him, i.e. the wave, he sank. If we do not become entangled in the affairs of this life, if we do not lose focus on the Kingdom of God, then we are pleasing the One who has enlisted us.
As an athlete in the race of life we have been given a rule book. We must live by the Word to be crowned a victor of this race. We must obey His rules. This is linked to the soldier for if we do not focus on His word than we don’t know what the rules are and His “people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.†Hosea 4:6
As a farmer we must plant the seed, tend the field, and reap the harvest. Without focus on this task we will accomplish nothing. Without following the rules our harvest will be tainted. We can not share our harvest with anyone unless we ourselves have partaken of that harvest. For us to spread the wealth of Gods word we must first experience the wealth of Gods word. This is what it means to be a witness!
Now focus on the task at hand, run the race by the rules, and work hard to reap the benefits of the Kingdom of God. By following this formula we will open ourselves to be used by God, grow spiritually, be leaders by our actions, and as a result spread the Gospel of the Kingdom of God.
God bless you all. Snowfloater
