Regarding dead Christians whom i admire, (other the Paul the Apostle)... Francis of Assisi is my favorite.
I know that most believers would pick and rightly so, some Christian Martyr like Dietrich Bonhoeffer, but for me, im more drawn to the mystical side of Christendom as i am someone who has literally seen signs and wonders, and so this leads me always in the direction of Francis of Assisi, as his simple life was so very mystical and "other worldly".
So, regarding "past" unique believers who have touched me by their faith and their Walk with God, i would say that John Wesley and Jeanne Guyon rang a special chord in me .... but it is Francis of Assisi who is an endless fascination to me, as his childlike faith and extreme devotion to God, when i think about it, always sparkles to me like a diamond in the sun.
