Understanding the concept of free-will will draw us nearer to a better understanding of God and how we might serve him. It will clear up misinterpretations and remove doubt for our Christian experience and lead to a more faithful walk in the journey to an everlasting existence.
It is difficult, if not impossible, to effectively relate to anyone or anything without some awareness of who or what you are dealing with. And the foundation of establishing a true relationship with God is the requisite understanding of his nature and the role we play in the grand scheme of things—God’s grand scheme of things—and not one where man is at the center and everything else revolves around him.
Yes we are special, but all too often our interpretations of God’s word are based on a very human perspective and are repeatedly flawed. Not that we intentionally do this. Our customs and traditions are woven into our psyche from an early stage of our development and are thereafter difficult to rescind. We mostly do things the way they were handed down to us and the tradition continues. A good example of this is our religious beliefs—whether we are Christian or Buddhist, Hindu or Muslim—they are based on the religious judgment of our society. It was handed down to us and we generally uphold our traditions. Be mindful that this applies to our behavior, at large, and not just religion.
Our societal influences—some call this culture—have often led us to believe that God is there to serve us and not the other way around. It’s an expectation steeped in our olden traditions when men called upon their Gods to perform good deeds for them, which if they couldn’t, were regarded as not strong enough, or fake. History tells us that these weak Gods were time and again fired, often to be replaced by the god of their conquerors; by adaptation or coercion.
At the core of a true appreciation of our creator, is us grasping an awareness of the essence of Free-will and the indispensable role it plays in our creation and ultimate existence, or non-existence. When this is achieved, mindboggling questions, contradictions, and slippery theodicies are answered and a sure path to the ultimate promise of God comes into view. With the best of intentions, our time honored traditions have often muddled the word of God and too many are left confused, and some of us, morbidly deceived.
Untangling this web of falsity and deceptions is the objective of these coming articles on Free-will. Thereafter, we hope a clearer understanding of why we are here, and the path we must follow, will become more logical.
Many have argued the concept of free-will and have clouded the water. We intend to present a plain and simple reality, and then leave the free-willed acceptance up to your free choice.
