From Childhood

Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. Mark 10: 14.

In the children who were brought in contact with Him, Jesus saw the men and women who should be heirs of His grace and subjects of His kingdom. . . . In His teaching He came down to their level. He, the Majesty of heaven, did not disdain to answer their questions and simplify His important lessons to meet their childish understanding. He planted in their minds the seeds of truth, which in after years would spring up, and bear fruit unto eternal life.

It is still true that children are the most susceptible to the teachings of the gospel; their hearts are open to divine influences, and strong to retain the lessons received. The little children may be Christians, having an experience in accordance with their years. They need to be educated in spiritual things, and parents should give them every advantage, that they may form characters after the similitude of the character of Christ. . . .

The Christian worker may be Christ's agent in drawing these children to the Saviour. By wisdom and tact he may bind them to his heart, . . . and through the grace of Christ may see them transformed in character, so that of them it may be said, "Of such is the kingdom of God."

God wants every child of tender age to be His child, to be adopted into His family. Young though they may be, the youth may be members of the household of faith, and have a most precious experience. . . . They may have their hearts drawn out in confidence and love for Jesus, and live for the Saviour. Christ will make them little missionaries. The whole current of their thought may be changed, so that sin will not appear a thing to be enjoyed, but to be shunned and hated.

The Saviour longs to save the young. He would rejoice to see them around His throne, clothed in the spotless robes of His righteousness. He is waiting to place upon their heads the crown of life, and to hear their happy voices join in ascribing honor and glory and majesty to God and the Lamb in the song of victory that will echo and re-echo through the courts of heaven.

I'm confussed. When did EGW ever predict the return of Jesus? Maybe you are thinking of William Miller and his prediction.

I can tell you this, your post isn't much appreciated because you seek to turn the spotlight on yourself instead of letting the message soak in and thus you ruin the experience of this post for others as well. Sometimes we just gotta admit it's not about us but Him.

(At the conference a very solemn vision was given to me. I saw that some of those present would be food for worms, some subjects for the seven last plagues, and some would be translated to heaven at the second coming of Christ, without seeing death.) Spiritual Gifts Vol. 2 pg. 208

This conference was in May of 1856, EGW either missed her prediction on the second coming of Christ or those who were present who would not see death are now in excess of 150 yrs. old! You are correct though when you say it is not about us but about Him. Her writings are full of scriptural inaccuracies. Christ has warned us about folks like Ellen G. White.

Matthew 24:24---For there shall arise false Christs, AND FALSE PROPHETS, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall decieve the very elect.-- KJV --caps are mine

When did Mrs. White say this would happen in the material you quoted?

Glad you are willing to own something.

I understand that EGW did indeed predict Jesus' return - within months at one point and within her life time at another. I think it was in her early writings if I recall correctly. Does anyone have more detail?

When she said it would happen is irrelevant isn't it? Wheter it was supposed to happen in a day, a month, a year or many years-she said that there were those present at this conference WHO WOULD NOT SEE DEATH. Unless you can produce some of your SDA brethern who were present at this conference, I'd say that she missed her mark!

Mutzrein, the above quote is from her book Spiritual Gifts. Her vision told her that there were some present at this conference who would not see death before Christ's return.

Concerning a conference in 1856 Ellen White declared: "I was shown the company present at the conference. Said the angel, 'Some food for worms, some subjects of the seven last plagues, some will be alive and remain upon the earth to be translated at the coming of Jesus.' " All who were alive then are now dead. Does this prediction mean that Mrs. White is a false prophet?

Numerous statements made by Ellen White in the decades following the 1856 vision demonstrate her clear understanding that there is an implied conditional quality to God's promises and threatenings--as Jeremiah declared--and that the conditional feature in forecasts regarding Christ's Advent involves the state of heart of Christ's followers. The following statement, written in 1883, is especially relevant on this point:

"The angels of God in their messages to men represent time as very short. Thus it has always been presented to me. It is true that time has continued longer than we expected in the early days of this message. Our Saviour did not appear as soon as we hoped. But has the Word of the Lord failed? Never! It should be remembered that the promises and the threatenings of God are alike conditional. . . .

"It was not the will of God that the coming of Christ should be thus delayed. God did not design that His people, Israel, should wander forty years in the wilderness. He promised to lead them directly to the land of Canaan, and establish them there a holy, healthy, people. But those to whom it was first preached, went not in 'because of unbelief.' Their hearts were filled with murmuring, rebellion, and hatred, and He could not fulfill His covenant with them.

"For forty years did unbelief, murmuring, and rebellion shut out ancient Israel from the land of Canaan. The same sins have delayed the entrance of modern Israel into the heavenly Canaan. In neither case were the promises of God at fault. It is the unbelief, the worldliness, unconsecration, and strife among the Lord's professed people that have kept us in this world of sin and sorrow so many years" (Ms 4, 1883, quoted in Evangelism, pp. 695, 696).

Numerous statements made by EGW after that 1856 vision indicate clearly that in was a conditional prophecy.

“If those who claimed to have a living experience in the things of God had done their appointed work as the Lord ordained, the whole world would have been warned ere this, and the Lord Jesus would have come in power and great glory. For God has appointed a day in the which He will judge the world. He tells us when that day shall come,–‘This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come’†(Review and Herald, October 6, 1896).

“By giving the gospel to the world it is in our power to hasten our Lord's return. We are not only to look for but to hasten the coming of the day of God. 2 Peter 3:12, margin. Had the church of Christ done her appointed work as the Lord ordained, the whole world would before this have been warned, and the Lord Jesus would have come to our earth in power and great gloryâ€Â
(The Desire of Ages, p. 633, 634).

“Had the purpose of God been carried out by His people in giving to the world the message of mercy, Christ would, ere this, have come to the earth, and the saints would have received their welcome into the city of God†(Testimonies for the Church, vol. 6, p. 449).

“Christ is waiting with longing desire for the manifestation of Himself in His church. When the character of Christ shall be perfectly reproduced in His people, then He will come to claim them as His ownÀ (Christ’s Object Lessons, p. 69).

Her words are quite simple to understand and the SDA can attempt to justify them however they choose to. The fact remains that she prophesied that Christ would return before some at this conference saw death. Unless the SDA can produce somebody who was alive when this conference took place, this indeed makes her a false prophet.

You've said that. Are you at this point unwilling to recognize the fact that there are conditional prophecies and the vision you are citing could indeed be one of those? Why are we so quick to label some false prophets but not others, such as Jeremiah?

Do you see this prophecy that was made over a hundred years ago has come true?

Through the two great errors, the immortality of the soul and Sunday sacredness, Satan will bring the people under his deceptions. While the former lays the foundation of spiritualism, the latter creates a bond of sympathy with Rome. The Protestants of the United States will be foremost in stretching their hands across the gulf to grasp the hand of spiritualism; they will reach over the abyss to clasp hands with the Roman power; and under the influence of this threefold union, this country will follow in the steps of Rome in trampling on the rights of conscience.
