Levitical priestly order is established/begins here:

Lev 8:1-2 God tells Moses; get some anointing oil, vs 6 now wash (mikveh/baptize) Aaron with water, vrs 7-9 dress, vs 12 put the anointing oil on Aaron's head to sanctify/set his apart for Priestly duties. Thus establishing the Levitical Priestly order)
(NOTE: At Aarons ordination, he is baptized w/water & anointed with oil to become High Priest after the order of Levi (Levitical order)

KJV John 3:34 he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God ""giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him""
(NOTE: Translators capitalized Spirit emphasizing deity. Jesus is given an unlimited measure of God's Holy Spirit)

Priestly context: John water baptises Jesus, then God from Heaven anoints Jesus with ""an unlimited measure"" of the Holy Spirit. The stage is set at Jesus baptism for the retirement of the physical/wordly; Levitical priesthood. And the process of Priest after the order of Melchizedek begins.

It's not until Jesus finishes the work of redemption at his death. In resurrection power that Jesus is becomes Priest after the eternal Order of Melchizedek. The earth quaked & the veil of the Temple is torn in 1/2 (Matt 27:51). As Jesus breaks & passes thru the spiritual barrier. Guarded by cherubim since man's Garden removal from the garden. The Temple veil had Cherubim embroidered onto it (Ex 26:31)

God specified that the sacrifice's on the Day of Atonement could only be offered by Aaron & the succeeding High Priests among his descendants. Two sacrifices were offered, a lot was drawn. One was sacrificed to the Lord. The other, Aaron was to lay his hands on the head of the Azazel Scapegoat. He would confess all the peoples sins imputing them onto the sacrifice. And the Azazel Scapegoat was sent into the wilderness. Carrying away all the people sins with it. (Lev 16:8-22)

John the Baptist announced: Behold the Lamd of God, that TAKES AWAY THE SINS OF THE WORLD. John then layed his hands on Jesus and Baptized him?

Where did Jesus go immediately after His baptism? Answer: The wilderness (Azazel Scapegoat) Again, Only the High Priest could inact this sin transfer process. (see scapegoat Lev 16:10)

Lev 16:21 And Aaron shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat, and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions in all their sins, putting them upon the head of the goat, and shall send him away by the hand of a fit man into the wilderness:(see Lev 16:8,9,10,21 & 22 on transfer process)

Additional context
John the Baptist father (Zacharias) was a pure blooded priest, a descent of Aaron on both his mothers & fathers blood line (1 Chr 24:10, Luke 1:5 & 8).

While John's father (Zacharias) is a Temple Priest (Lk 1:5). While at the altar of incense, preforming his Priestly Temple duties, an angel appears (Lk 1:11). Tells him he will have a son (he & his wife are to old Lk 1:7) And that his son (John the Baptist) shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb Lk 1:15. God choose Aaron to be the 1st Levitical High Priest & God choose John the Baptist to be the last Levitical High Priest

Temple sin sacrifices only COVERED sin for 1 yr. John the Baptist announces (Jn 1:29) Behold the Lamb of God that TAKES AWAY the sins of the world.

Alot happened at Jesus baptism, none of which had anything to do repentance or the forgivness of sin. Jesus was SINLESS! (1 Pet 1:19 & 2:22, 2 Cor 5:21, 1 Jn 3:5) & therefore had nothing to repent of, or be forgiven for.

When John the Baptist, God's chosen High Priest lay's his hands on Jesus, announcing & he was the lamb of God who TAKES AWAY the sins of the world. John baptises, passing/transfering (see Lev 16:20-21) all the sins of humankind onto the God's choosen Lanb. When Jesus comes up: A 2nd voice coming from Heaven (Matt 3:17) giving priestly ordination confirmation via a FlyingDove = HOLY SPIRIT, falls ANONTING Jesus: Great High Priest after the order of Melchezidek.

Matt 11:9 But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet.
(NOTE: Jesus says; John the Baptist was a prophet & MORE)

Luke 7:26 But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet.
(NOTE: Luke tells us, Jesus said; John the Baptist was a prophet & MUCH MORE.)

Here the Lord is instructing Aaron His Chosen High Priest:
Leviticus 10:9 Do not drink wine nor strong drink, thou, nor thy sons with thee, when ye go into the tabernacle of the congregation, lest ye die: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations:
(NOTE: Priests of the Levitical order were not to drink wine nor strong drink, throughout their generations)

Here an angel of the Lord is giving Zacharias instructions regarding John the Baptist:
Luke 1:15 For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb.
(NOTE: "and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink".)

Types and shadows, except for what the blood of bulls and goats could not do is take away sin once and for all. Now that Christ is our High Priest He acomplished the finished works on the cross once and for all.

Hebrews 10:
1 For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect. 2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins. 3 But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year. 4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins. 5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me: 6 In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.

7 Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God. 8 Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law; 9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second. 10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. 11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: 12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; 13 From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. 14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. 15 Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before, 16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; 17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. 18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.
