Fruits and Gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Desire is another way of saying LOVE. When we love the things of the world and cannot let them go that is one thing. But when we leave all that to follow Jesus, we learn to LOVE one another and desire the things of the LORD for each other. And that is just my way of summarizing and agreeing with what you said.
Good, because that's exactly what I was saying. In fact I paused at the word 'desire' when I was typing it and almost used the word 'love' instead.

;)

LOVE is one way to know those who have found the Lord. For the Love of the Lord is real, can be felt, and is the most wonderful gift.

Growing in the fruit of the Spirit is what enpowered me to walk in the gifts of the Spirit.

I started out in a Full Gospel church that emphasized the baptism in the Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit. Well, I quickly realized that I'm not particularly gifted and didn't fit in very well. What I did learn in time was the gifts operate in far less dramatic ways than some churches insist. And because of that, they often operate without us even realizing it. But, most importantly, I learned the power of the gifts comes from the desire within to see other people healed, instructed, encouraged, and helped. If you want to walk in amazing gifts love others with the love of God. Then out of your desire to see them healed, set free, helped, etc. your gift(s) will rise up within you full of faith and ready to go to work toward fulfilling the goal of love that is inside of you that wants to help somebody else.
I'm not arguing with you, just trying to get a better understanding of how the Fruit and the Gifts work together and compliment one another to enhance a person's spiritual journey.

It seems that the Fruit of the Spirit is a life time process to perfect and the Gifts of the Spirit are freely given to us to build up, edify and glorify the Church. Gifts are not for personal use, but are for the whole entire Body of Christ While we are using our gifts, we are developing, maturing and experience growth in the Fruits. God has prepared works for us before the foundation of the world and these works require the gifts to perform, as our Fruit increases so does the effectiveness of our gifts. The more we love, like you stated, the more powerful our gift becomes. Is that about right?

However, what seems to be missing in regards to gifts are people to mentor other people, for instance if a person's gift is teaching, then they should be under a teacher to learn and to grow in this area. If churches are not recognizing the congregation's gifts, then it seems this is even more likely to be missed. How do we ensure gifts are being developed? Or if God gives us gifts, do we even worry about it, and trust He will develop them for us? A pastor told me one time that we should not even claim a gift because we might operate in more than one and if we put a label on ourselves, we might limit progress in other areas.
Just curious if you or others have anything to add about this.

If a person has the gift of teaching then why would they need a human teacher?

I used teacher as an example and you've missed the point, which is: do we need mentors? Should we be seeking them out to enhance our gifts? Like I said in my post, do they develop on their own or should we be trained under a more spiritual person?

This is the question.

Great question! My personal feeling is that
It seems counterintuitive that some one receiving a gift would need teaching other than by the Spirit. :)

My thought is, if you receive a gift or many gifts, don't you have to unwrap them?
Just as we receive a new Spirit when we accept Christ, our minds and bodies still need to be renewed to the Word, so that they gain knowledge, and can be trained to obey. And salvation is a gift, but still needs to be developed.
God is not just going to give you a gift and then not teach you how to use it. And when we receive the gift, if we ask Him, He will show us how and where to learn how to use it.
Blessings to you both :)

Gifts come in many different packages, just like on Christmas day...Go figure !!
Here is a little nuget of truth I learned over the years.....If there is something on the inside of you that you just can not shake. If you think it was killed off and died years ago and yet it shows up inside you once again. Well you need to truly seek God on this.....

Oh waite I forgot something.......... This that I am talking about is a dream or desire that goes against what most would do. Something that only you seem to have any desire or thought of and tugs deep in your heart. It can be as simple as mowing yards of the elderly FOR FREE and letting them know that God wanted to mow thier lawn for them...I know sounds silly but honestly, I can not write down every thing NOR can I say what is a God given talent or gift or desire or dream......It can be buying groceries for some folks in line that they clearly show they can not afford the total......

It can be fixing things.....befriending those who are considered outcast by most....Maybe it's giving bibles or praying for people or what have you. Don't ever despise anything that seems to be God given or birthed in you NO matter how small or big and NO matter how many folks think your nuts and give you a hundred million reasons why it wont work or is not God....It was givern TO YOU and NOT THEM....God knows who He can count on for the task and in His eyes........No ones task or calling is better then anothers and if you obey then you get the credit. End of story.

So Jethro Bodine and Others.........Do NOT ever sell your self short in what you feel is something that God has placed in you....It is all importyasnt to HIM and he does not compare the task as human do.

For me, I will let the inner teacher do any unwrapping; without human mediator. :)

Amen! God did give some to be teachers for us to learn from, otherwise why did He give them to the Church? We all can learn from one another, that is what makes up the Body of Christ! We work together, learn together, journey together with God as the center, it's not an individualized religion, it's the Church doing the work of Christ together!

This forum is somewhat like a Church, I am 18 and God has given much wisdom from my elders here that I learn from and in turn when it's my turn, I will teach the younger generation, and it goes down.

As far as gifts go, like I said in my first post about this, it would do us good to listen to more spiritually mature people, who are filled with wisdom and knowledge - at least for me, this is how I have learned much from people here!

It's a perfect plan!

This really helps explain the Body of Christ and how we are made up of many parts doing many different functions. If someone has a heart to mow lawns then that is one body part fulfilling that work and if one is to prophesy that is another body part fulfilling that work and when the whole Body works together, it is the greatest witness to the world that we can get!

There was a homeless shelter being built here, and while it was being built, 40 churches got together and built it. There were people who supplied the hardware for the building all the way down to people baking brownies and everything in between. Together, they were all ONE witness to the community. The younger generation saw the work of God that they had never seen before and all the gifts working together as One Body! Amen!

Jesse Hi,

In my mind, that is the way that God does things. I mean the world teaches us that an inheritance from our parents (if they were rich) is not a good thing, because it can cause someone to be lazy, and spoiled. However if that person would take that inheritance and build off of it, then wow, what wonderful things God could do through them.
God just brought a thought to my mind. Why would a person who knows that God is calling them into the ministry go to school? God is our Father and He has many gifted pastors out there to teach us if that is our desire. We just have to rely on Him to tell us where He wants us to learn from.
Blessings Jesse

I agree, I don't think a person needs to attend seminary if God is calling them to be a teacher. I do think though that the person being called, whoever and whatever that is, should be under a good godly spiritual leader. God did give us leaders in the Church for us to look up to, as good examples. If God gives us gifts, I believe he will bring along the right people to help us and the right circumstance.

I remember one time God had put on my heart to do something, it was very clear that I should do this and the next day someone called me and asked me to do just that which God had put on my heart to do, and this even the night before. The thing is though, God had prepared me for this, He had already brought people into my life to already teach me, but I didn't know that at the time. God is good and faithful and I am grateful for all the lessons and all the people he has brought into my life to teach me!

I think that is how God gives us peace, because He always prepares us ahead of time for whatever it is that He wants for us to do. Even if it's the night before:)
