There exists a website which allows players to gamble using the money paid by the advertisers. That is, the advertisers pay the company to display ads on their website. The company in turn gives each player a small amount which they are allowed to play with. If they lose all the money, then they will be given the original amount again. However, once the player reaches a certain threshold, they are allowed to cash out and keep the money. Of course, this takes time because the bets are limited in the amounts which can be bet. The idea is that no more is provided to the gaming website, but that the money comes from the advertisers. Hence, the player is not actually playing with their money.
I was thinking about this idea in another context. What is such a site existed, but the player donated their winnings to charity rather than cashing out. Would that be ethical from a Christian perspective?
Take it a step further. Would it be acceptable for the person to keep a portion of their winnings and only donate a percentage?
And one more step further. Would it be acceptable for the website operator to turn a profit on this idea?
