Genesis 1:26 In Depth

Okay, So i must first say that I AM NOT a bible guru and not a wealth of scriptural knowledge. I hope i did not lead anyone to think that, You probably didn't but if you did sorry about that. So now to business, I have read Genesis but just skimming back over the first chapter again something caught my eye. And it is consistent in both of my versions.

Genesis 1:26 KJV
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth on the earth.

NIV
Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."

So the question i ask myself after reading this is, Who's us?! Maybe you guys know more than i do and this is an easy answer. Maybe you have no idea. But if any of you know for sure who "us" is then it would be nice to post an answer. But if not i would love to go into a bible study on it! Because that really captures my attention. I wouldnt say its the angels. Because.. We didn't hear about them anywhere in the genesis account, But then again it didn't mention anyone else exept for there.

Hmmmmm....to be honest I'm not quite sure. :chin

My initial reaction was to say it's the Trinity. Which would be consistent with with John 1:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

Jesus is the Word. In the Genesis account we see God creating. In John 1 it says Jesus was with God in the beginning. That may indeed be where you get the "us" from.

I wouldn't think it's angels, because I don't believe we are created in the image and likeness of angels - only God.

What an interesting topic! :)

I heard about this in youth group. "us" is Father, Son, Holy Spirit. Because wasn't there a refrence to Jesus a few verses over. About a snake striking a heal and then offspring crushing th snakes head. I'm pretty sure that was Jesus they were talking about. So, God, Jesus, Holy Spirit. It's the whole God being one and three at the same time thingy. So yeah.

Is this the verse your talking about?

Genesis 3:15 NIV
And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel."

Perhaps that verse itself is worth study. :lol

If I do indeed study this verse i will have to come at it

:fullauto :fullauto
:fullauto :fullauto
:fullauto :fullauto

Because i am also taking interest in the book of malachi too and i probably will find even more to study on.
