The rather elementary error of AIG here is so obvious, it's hard to believe they actually wrote this:

But this article also reminds me how the original dog kind that came off the ark must have had a massively heterozygous genome, with enough variability created in it to account for speciation into wolves, coyotes, jackals, etc. And also that humans have been able to breed the gray wolf into hundreds of dog breeds (many of them recently).

Assuming that dogs are "clean" they could have had at most 14 alleles for each gene locus on the Ark. That's far from "massively heterozygous"; most genes in mammals have dozens of alleles, and there's no possible way that the thousands of different alleles in various canids could have come from seven individuals.

It's just a fairy tale, to make the story more plausible.
