[Barbarian]

Carver did much of his research here at Iowa State University. He accidentally integrated the college dining hall. He was told to eat in the kitchen, and willingly did so. But his fellow students were offended, and they all trooped into the kitchen to eat with him. And the dining hall gave in and told him he could eat with everyone else.

It happens that I proposed to Mrs. Barbarian near the top of that staircase over a half-century ago.
