Give Me A Break Get A Life

I would never belong to a HOA.. ... They are liberal ya know always deciding what is right for some one else.. :) :couch
most of the wealthy here are in those. many of those large homes I take photos of that aren't ancient , unless you are reba are in Hoa's

Jail time for the color of a swing set?

Serves 'em right. The whole lot should serve time. But by that I mean the entire Home Owner's Association not the "offender" (so called). No mercy for nuisance cases -- our courts are flooded as they are. And no special protection either. It would be funny to hear them cry all night long;

:pray "O! Mommy, O! Mommy! whatever have I done?" and, "Lord, protect me, please. For indeed, I have objected to PINK and PURPLE swing sets and have made a royal pain outta myself, but I repent, I repent, please don't let them keel me..." :gavel

HOA threatens 'jail time' for family over color of backyard play set
Legal letters demand removal of the purple (!) swing set within weeks.

Whenever you use an acronym the first time would you please give its full meaning? HOA may be known to you, but I had to do a Google search to find its meaning as Homeowners Association. Is that what it means? You have an international audience with this forum and I did not know the meaning of HOA without a Google explanation.

Many thanks,
Oz

We have an HOA in our neighborhood and you have to sign the covenant prior to purchasing property in it. It's a pretty good thing, it keeps the riff-raff out. The play set pictured in the article seems rather tame, it would be fine in our neighborhood as long as it was in back. It sounds like there are deeper issues here than just a play set, it makes me wonder if there has been prior hard feelings and someone on the HOA is just using this incident to get even.

As far as jail time, well, ignore a court order on anything and you risk the judge sending you to jail.

yes that is what it means. people aren't made to live in those. they do that to keep riff raff out. gate communites restrict who can enter as one must have the code to enter or be allowed in by the security guards. they also police the homes for upkeep and asthetics. I would never live in such places.

That doesn't tell me the nature and function of HOA. We have housing commission areas in Australia where the government builds houses and rents these at respectable, lower rents, but they often do attract those who are not wanting to keep the housing precincts up to speed in looks. They are rental properties for the low income people. See HERE.

My living standards barely pass my step relative's approval (they are hardcore and hold to strict standards on housecleaning), I can't imagine living in a community like that.

An HOA is a gated community. The homes are each owned by the individuals/families ... not a rental in the area, and definitely not built by the government. It's more exclusive than typical suburbs... usually with an enclosure around the entire area, and a security gate through which to enter. Guests, delivery people, etc., usually have to be added to the list if there is a guard to monitor who enters and when they leave.

Some HOA's are not gated, nor fenced/enclosed. However, the homeowners association will have meetings, hold elections, and have a team who keeps an eye out to ensure all homeowners in the association are following the mandates in the HOA Agreement.

If one is considering buying or building a home in an HOA area, it's best to have an attorney to read through the legal agreement before one signs on the dotted line. There can be some rather unusual inclusions in those agreements.

We have plenty of those in Australia. Most are retirement villages. There is one near to where I live, Peninsula Palms, that is operated by an evangelical church (Christian Brethren).

There are large numbers of retirement communities where one must be retired in order to consider buying/building a home. Many of those communities also offer private golf courses.

So, are these HOA communities?

We have an HOA in our neighborhood. You have to sign a covenant before you can buy or build, but it's pretty tame. It mainly just prevents anyone from throwing up a shack or raising chickens in their front yard or painting their house psychedelic plaid or whatever. It protects everyone in the neighborhood.

Many of those large condos I have photographed are in HOA,poa.here we have the idiots that lease for 30 days or less.the county allows it but the city doesn't.there have been criminal acts, late night parties commited by the tenants.

It's quite the opposite here. Most villages with a security guard have modern brick houses/units where gardens and other amenities are carefully manicured for a fee. There is a covenant to sign and this includes conditions for sale of houses in the complex.

There would be no parties allowed in such villages (except the occasion birthday party where there was no annoyance to neighbours).
