Giving In...

Due to hormones, sex is a common discussion amongst us teenagers... and I know plenty who submit to these hormones. In fact, a sixth grader at the school I attend recently got impregnated...

We live in a time period where sex is everywhere in our media - the most noticeable being within the music industry. Rap even speaks of rape, popular alternative rock tends to have mention of sadomasochism, pop and r&b have blunt lyrics related to "I wanna put your jelly body in me", and ect...

Do you ever feel pressured to simply "give in" to the common conformity centered around basically infeasible ideals that arouse from insecurity, (e.x. having the body and sex life of Jessica Simpson) do you feel that there actually is no pressure upon such subjects, or how many around you have fallen to lust? Do you fear that once on is exposed to media about perversions they'll eventually become accustomed to it? Or, just whatever... I'm just attempting to give this forum some life :)

thanks for the help we've been trying to revive it for a while.
but i know what you mean about the feeling pressured to give in. my strategy is to keep myself out of situations where i even suspect there will be temptation.and it has worked so far!!!!

abstinence is perfect birth control!

What gets me through is praying for self-control every day, that God would help me to make the right decision no matter what temptations come my way. We're called to be in the world, but not one of the world. I agree that if you watch something enough or expose yourself enough to it, it does effect you. Even though we're Christians, we are all vulnerable, and it takes a considerable amount of God's strength and self-control to get through this life resisting those temptations. But God always gives freely, and promises to be with us no matter what choices we make.

Heh, indeed. I personally don't have a problem with such temptations at all; I don't even look at people as having "hot bodies" anymore. But there seems to be some sort of lust problems in many teens today, I mean seriously... an online friend I met a year ago has recently been struggling with removing to desires of non-role-play sadism, and many people seem to have adapted the view that losing viriginity is actually good, just because it causes one to seem cool.

Yeah, it is sad. That's why it's so important to watch what we put in our minds and the people that we hang out with, because if you listen to it enough, you have less and less of a chance of resisting it yourself. Unfortunatly while most of my friends are being raised in Christian households, I'm not sure how many of them are being taught those values of waiting and being pure. I admire a guy more who wants to wait for me and respect me then someone who just wants to use me...And I feel sorry for all the girls out there who compromise themselves that way. But God does promise to pick us back up again and forgive us if we do fall short.

I dunno how old this thread is, so forgive me if it's really old. >.<

My views on this:

Teens these days are so tempted by sex in many ways. Music is a major one, especially rap. That's my first reason for hating rap so much (I also just hate the way it sounds =P). Movies and TV are horrible as well. They show so much and young people get curious and fall into the trap. It's really sad. :sad

I'm proud to say that I've lasted 18 years as a virgin. The Bible says to flee from temptation and so that's the best thing to do. It always makes me sad though to talk to friends at school who I've known for years and to find out they've lost their honor. It really does break my heart... I wish there was a way that could really get thru to teens everywhere that sex is meant for marriage only. =/

Ppl say that there's no reason that I'm here on earth because I have no urges. They miss the point completely , we were put on this earth to praise God, not just to engage in sexual intercourse, there's more meaning to life than this, I feel kind of sorry for them because thay believe if there's no sex there's no point to life, I myself believe I have a greater purpose

Straight away that reminds me of "Garbage in, garbage out." The junk that we feed our minds eventually comes out in the way we live our life styles, in our behaviour, in our hearts etc. More often than not we won't even realize that each time our minds are being fed something, it's like it's logging onto our brain. Which is now reminding me of when a person simply downloads something. They might download a program they want but then they get all of this other crud on their computers with it (like pop up adds/viruses) even though it might take them a little while to realize. There's always more to it than the person thinks. There's always a catch. That's why it's so important for us to to protect ourselves, being cautious of what we're allowing into our minds ("whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirableâ€â€if anything is excellent or praiseworthyâ€â€think about such things" - Philippians 4:8), who we're spending our time with, what we're involved with etc.

Like Eva Janus, it breaks my heart to hear that my friends have decided to lose their honour. My best friend of 12 years has done so recently and it's hard to just sit and watch her being ripped off like this even though she doesn't see it. There's only so much you can say without pushing them away. I don't know... it's just not a fun situation.

As a younger girl, every Saturday and Sunday morning I would wake up early and watch TV Hits which is just a show devoted to hours of music videos. I refuse to watch them now. To the ear it's music but to the eye it's pretty much just porn.

With society and the media we're bombarded with 'sex' no matter where we turn. I agree with what others have said about praying every day for self-control and to make the right decisions. When it all just gets too much... God's our escape. At least we can have a break from it all when we're tight in His arms and presence.

I love that verse. <3

I wish i could remember the reference to the verse that says to flee from temptation. >.< I love that verse too but just can't remember the reference.

Eva, would this be the passage your looking for?

1 Corinthians 6:18

I'm not really a teen anymore, but I must say I'm glad to hear so many brothers and sisters openly discussing this issue. Christian adults get really antsy when this is being discussed, and so they don't always know how to talk about it.

I'm a 20 year old guy, and a proud virgin! Back in my not so long ago high school days, I always tried to keep 1 Thessolonians 4:3-5, 7 in mind. I want to please God in every aspect of my life, and so being sexually pure is a must for me. Again, it's really cool to see that there are others who think the same way. 8-)

Yes sex is very much emphasised in this world. Everytime i turn on the tv or listen to music there is some subtle "sex msgs" in them. But i dont really take much notice, im not saying i completely ignore the temptation, but i try too...sometimes the curious teenager inside of me gets the best out of me though xD
