This is for those who dearly love God for who He is. If you love Him for his gifts, that is, what He gives YOU, what you’ve gained from Him, you won’t understand. You’ll only read WORKS SALVATION in the below. Best stop reading now.
But perhaps there are those believers who find in their hearts a deep desire to give to Him. It’s the nature of love to give to the beloved. Maybe you yearn to give Him something out of yourself. you But what what can we give that blesses Him?
Believe on Jesus? Already done long ago and CHEAP, to boot! It’s merely a mental switch. Donate money? Well more costly but usually within budget so no pleasure is denied and besides, He has enough. Worship? Well that is even cheaper besides being a pleasure to you and so also a gift to self. Not very satisfying for the heart desiring to bless the Beloved!
I know!! You can believe Him enough to obey Him on a matter the Holy Spirit is impressing upon you. Is He pressing you to humble yourself and ask forgiveness of a person? Oh man, THAT’S costly!! But it’s a gift you can give Him that He cannot buy himself. Is He asking you to forgive someone? That’s a gift of obedience He cannot buy Himself. God once asked me to out and out to trust Him and go about daily duties when I felt like curling up into a ball. It was raw obedience (no desire) that made me do so. He was blessed by my “gift.”
So if you want to give to Him, don’t be fooled by thinking the singing at church (very pleasurable for you) is all He wants. Don’t tell yourself it’s “a sacrifice” when you enjoy it. Ask Him what you can do to bless Him and don’t be surprised if it’s obedience. When it costs you something like pride, it’s even sweeter to Him.
