Glory To Him Forever!
(^traditional Eastern Catholic greeting)

Hi all,

I just signed up, so here I am!

I guess a 'lil background info is in order ...

I'm a career firefighter with just over 4 years to go before my 20 year retirement. I came back to the Faith in 1994, after about 20 years of doing things the "world's" way.

I'm an Eastern Rite Catholic, because the Roman Catholic Diocese where I live is horribly liberal (i.e., "totally out of whack").

Almost immediately after having returned to my Faith, I developed a great interest in knowing/befriending other Christians (most especially the very conservative Evangelical Christians).

I detest just about everything that is Liberal. :screwloose

This has caused me to have no small amount of difficulties with the liberal "catholics" in my area who are Pro-choice, Pro-Gay Agenda, Pro-"the bible is a bunch of stories", Pro-"sex is good at almost anytime", etc.

On the flip side, some conservative Catholics have issues with me for having befriended too many Evangelicals (I sometimes attend Friday night services at an Evangelical church, and I belong to a Christian Singles activities group that are mostly Evangelicals).

So I guess that's enough for now,
frank :)

Wow, so many nice welcomes!

Thanks everyone. :D

Hi Firefighter :wave

Welcome to the site, glad you're here :salute

Just saw your sig ("The Voice of the Martyrs").

A couple of weeks ago at Greater Grace Community Church I saw a woman from Iran who gave her testimony.

Her name was Afrooze Emami and her story appeared in the Oct/2003 edition of "The Voice of the Martyrs".

I've posted her story on this forum in the appropriate section. Here is the link:

Nice to meet you. I'm not familiar with Eastern Rite Catholic, could you elaborate a little on the difference between that and RC?

Regarding Eastern Catholicism ...

In the year 1054, the Orthodox (Greek Orthodox, Russian Orthodox, others) split from the Catholic Church.

Beginning in the 16th century, some of those churches desired to reunite with the Catholic Church. Over time, more did the same. These are the Eastern Catholic Churches of today:

(date of union or foundation in parenthesis)

Alexandrian liturgical tradition
1. Coptic Catholic Church : (1741)
2. Ethiopian Catholic Church : (1846)

Antiochian (Antiochene or West-Syrian) liturgical tradition
1. Maronite Church : (union re-affirmed 1182)
2. Syriac Catholic Church : (1781)
3. Syro-Malankara Catholic Church : (1930)

Armenian liturgical tradition
1. Armenian Catholic Church : (1742)

Chaldean or East Syrian liturgical tradition
1. Chaldean Catholic Church : (1692)
2. Syro-Malabar Church : (date disputed)

Byzantine (Constantinopolitan) liturgical tradition
1. Albanian Greek Catholic Church : (1628)
2. Belarusian Greek Catholic Church : (1596)
3. Bulgarian Greek Catholic Church : (1861)
4. Byzantine Church of the Eparchy of Križevci : (1611)
5. Greek Byzantine Catholic Church : (1829)
6. Hungarian Greek Catholic Church : (1646)
7. Italo-Albanian Catholic Church : (Never separated)
8. Macedonian Greek Catholic Church : (1918)
9. Melkite Greek Catholic Church : (1697)
11. Russian Catholic Church: (1905)
12. Ruthenian Catholic Church (1646)
13. Slovak Greek Catholic Church : (1646)
14. Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church : (1595)

Theologically, they are in unison with the Roman/Latin Church. Yet in certain traditions, they differ. For example, Eastern Catholic priests can be married (though not their bishops), but in the Roman Church the clergy remains celibate.

In worship, the Eastern Catholics retain the Liturgy of Eastern Orthodox Christians (much more elaborate than the current Novus Ordo Mass of the Roman Church).

At first (having been raised Roman Catholic), it took me a while to get used to Fr. Mikhail and his "wife and kids".

LOL

Oh so it's more like Eastern Orthodox? Thanks for the info.
