Go and Sin No More?

We have two places where Christ says to to the person to sin no more..

John 5:14
Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.

John 8:11
She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

Did Christ really mean for them to go from there and actually sin no more?
Then we have this warning from Christ..

Luke 11:24-26
24 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out.
25 And when he cometh, he findeth it swept and garnished.
26 Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first.

How does this apply to us today?
Although none of us are sinless, we all don't have to sin, just we refuse to not sin so much that God knows none of us can live permanently without sin, hence if it were so, Jesus died in vain.

We can sin no more because we don't have to sin, but we don't. We can have this apply to us today by setting our hearts and minds to live according to Christ standard, knowing that the Holy Spirit will guide us, move on us, love us, watch over us, counsel us, be our advocate, and have a protective hedge over us. So even if we fall we get back up.

Even moreso, don't focus on not sinning, focus on pleasing Christ, because you can not commit a blatant sin, yet still displease God. Some people don't smoke, drink, have sex, lie, cheat, steal, murder, or any of the obvious sins, but they just don't have a surrendered heart committed to God.

By focussing on God, we automatically eliminate sin and please Him at the same time.

When something is aimed for above, it may run into so obstacles, and although it may get set back, if it's aim remains the same it's still fulfilling it's purpose of pressing forward toward the mark of the high calling.

Yes, He meant it.
Thanks be to God for making it possible !

Using Jesus' parable about the sower...some of the "seed" landed on rocks or among thorns, where it briefly thrived, only to later fail.
Many come to Christ, only to fall away when things get tough.
Luke 11:24-26 is another warning to keep our defenses strong against temptation.

After reading "Soldier's post, I will add this verse from 1 Cor 10:13..."There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it."
We can live without ever offending God again, after a real repentance from sin, rebirth, and reception of the Holy Ghost.

Never forget what Christ gives, the power to overcome.

Follow God's instruction, don't resist the Holy Spirit. The biggest challenge today is to understand sin and the gravity thereof. "Sin" means missing the mark and disobedient to God, but we must be keenly aware of the fact, that the concept of "sin", especially original sin is antequated and alien to modern ears, you rarely hear that preached from any pulpit. The prevailing philosophy these days is that we are born as blank canvases, every sin comes from society and culture, it's not our fault, and therefore "Christ died for our sins according to the Scripture" (1 Cor. 15:3) becomes meaningless and distant since most people know neither sin nor the Scripture (the OT). I think a deep dive on the "seven deadly sins" is a good starting point, you know, it's NOT an end all be all doctrine, but a teaching tool. I wouldn't have known what sin means without studying the seven deadly sins.
