The problem with the logic is, you're using a book to show that the same book is trustworthy. If we were talking about any other book you'd most likely be ignored. Would you accept that logic from a Muslim about the Koran?

Below is an excerpt of an actual conversation I had with a Christian a number of years ago;

The Bible is trustworthy
How do you know its trustworthy?
Because its the word of God
How do you its the word of God?
Because the Bible says so
How do you know its trustworthy?

It sounds great until you think about it. Theres also the human element involved unless you believe God dictated the bible to them. I see it like when God gives people pictures and then the person describes what they saw. You give 2 people the same picture you'll more than likely get 2 different explanations/accounts as they put it in their own words. The picture is Gods, the words are humans inspired by that picture.

G:

Seems that you're still denying that God's Word has the last word (unless I'm mistaken in understanding you).

Do you believe God can err?

I'm saying there's an element of individual interpretation and that perhaps that's how God wanted it.

I mean, it depends on what is meant by err, its too vague a word without context

In terms of inerrancy, it means that God's Word doesn't err. This tends to separate Biblical evangelicalism from other ideas.

My final answer: Because I believe it.

Forgive me Grazer, but that's nonsense. The truth is the truth and there is no 2 different definitions for truth. It either is or it isn't. The Bible is a self-substantiating book. The more one reads it, the more one realizes that. We are not to pick and choose what suits us. We are to either accept it as is, or not. If you have some higher super faith that allows you to see more than we mere mortals do, then why do you take offense so easily instead of giving us retards a hand up, hmm?

With respect, I'm not the one accusing others of having the wrong interpretation so why don't you cut the insults?

G: For the Biblical evangelical believer, the Bible is his or her final authority. As you and I know.

But I didn't insult you. Read it carefully since you are a wordsmith. Here you go, taking offense, yet you proclaim to be nearer to God than us mere mortals, almost like Jesus you said once. You don't have that tone of being so close to God. ??

I'm out, just an observation. I believe the Word of God is in-errant.

I have never claimed any such thing about being almost like Jesus. I've said I try to follow his example as best as I can but I have never claimed to fully succeed!!!

...and the best way to following the Lord Jesus is by His grace submitting to everything He says in His Word, as recorded.

I follow by his grace or learning how to more every day but I have never said I've got it all figured out. I'm working my way with God like everyone here and I'm just trying to encourage people not to go down the "your interpretation differs from mine so you must be the one who needs the truth revealing" route so quick.

err- mess up, make a mistake, be incorrect in judgement

I think God has changed his mind on a couple of occasions; Moses seemed to talk him out of a couple of things; not sure what bracket you'd put that in.

He changed the way he was dealing with them.

Now can God err? Mess up? make a mistake in judgement?
