God giving you an answer

I have been told by several people that you will know when "God" is giving you an answer. Some people told me it is your conscience that nags at you/gives you the answer. My question is how can you be sure it is God's answer and not the one from the flesh. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks

The conscience, which is that "small, still voice" that you've heard so much about, is the voice of God in your heart, admonishing you from your choices governing what is right and what is wrong.

Lusts of the flesh aren't a yearning of the heart, but a sickly appetite or craving of the animal instincts or sexual desires.

It's a pretty cut-and-dry, clearly defined difference if you ask me.

Okay, thanks :) So the conscience is God telling you what you should do and you ignoring it is ignoring the voice of God. Got Ya :) Thanks

the problem is this: and its desribed perfectly in joyce meyers book "battlefield of the mind"

the holy spirit is in each one of us, and it is our guide, our helper, we must listen to this guide, and the voice of this guide is perceived by is through our minds. yes... you hear a small little voice (but ignore it), you think you have to call that person (but dont), you feel you need to drive that way home (but take the normal route) .. these are examples. but it is made clear that the holy spirit talks to us through our minds.

that is why we are told so many times to "renew our minds" and "submit our thought" and "crucify every thought" so that we can hear MORE CLEARLY this voice... the Holy spirit.

If you life is filled with wrong throughts, pessimistic ideas, negative behaviours, etc. ... chances are you wont hear God speaking to you at all.. even though he does. Its then when christians yell out loud: "God where are you????" ...

God never went anywhere, its us to busy stuffing our minds with the wrong things that make us not recognise Gods word.

hope it helps. :)

I don't think it is very cut and dried. For example, some homosexuals that are Christian say that God tells them through their consciousness that it is ok to love someone of the same gender. This is not the sexual part of them talking, but the romantic part, which they feel is from God.

Yet other feel God telling them that it is not ok to love someone of the same gender.

So which people are really hearing God?

If you don't like this example, there are similar examples on infant baptism; once saved, always saved; and the truth of the Trinity. So different people claim to get contradictory information from God. So which of the following is true?

1. Some people think they hear God, when God didn't talk to them.
or
2. God gives contradictory advise.

I don't think people like (2), so (1) seems more reasonable. So if (1) is true, then how can one know that are really hearing from God when other people are easily mistake on this?

Exactly.

The answer is, it ain't easy. I prefer to say or rather, to think, 'this is how I feel God is leading me.'

So why doesn't God just send us memos?
1. He doesn't exist
2. He has a reason which is not clear to me
3. He is speaking very clearly, but people don't hear Him because they will not hear Him

The whole prospect of existing blows my mind. I am, and I think, and I communicate. According to the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum physics, it is consciousness, and not material, which is the basis of existnce and matter as we know it.

My reasoning mind, my experience, and my understanding of Quantum mechanics all lead me to simply believe.

And among beliefs, the most compelling to me is the Christian gospel.

Your conscience is like a safety feature. :-D It will warn you, but it may not tell you what to do. It should be used to point to the truth of God's Word. You may have received the answer from His word long ago and it was already sown in your heart, all you needed to do is connect the dots, so to speak. Or you may not know the answer. it still is yet to be discovered from studying His Word. Look for the answers in His Word prayerfully and with diligence. Most times, for me, when I have a difficult question, and i've exhausted all options, opened all the doors and tested all these things honestly according to the truth of his Word, and still have not received an answer, i'll set it down for a while and more times than not, when i'm studying something completely different, the answer pops right out at me from His Word. I'm convinced God wants the effort first. When you do find His answer, you won't have to wonder if the voice in your head is your flesh or the Holy Spirit, you'll only need to know if your understanding of scripture is correct.

The truth is in His Word. As Alistair Begg would say "There's no magic in it."

Well, then, here's how I'd suggest, maybe, trying it: if it ISN'T cut-and-dry to you, then I guess it isn't -- for you -- in that case. The suggestion that same-gender sexually perverse relations are deemed by God as "acceptable" in His sight isn't what Scripture tells us, but it''s a prime example of things which are prioritized in the wrong order. What He is saying from all of this is this: IF you are currently having same-sex relations while drawing closer to God, you should not stop drawing closer to God -- the light that changes one's heart from within -- in order to stop having perverse sexual immorality at work in your life. That way is the Devil's trap: that "sin" is the stuff which KEEPS you from drawing nearer to God. If you desire to know God more intimately than you wish to remain indulging homosexual desires, simply continue to pursue love for God while making an effort to stop the things He doesn't approve of, without letting the effort outweigh the desire for Him. As you come nearer to Him, He will change your heart and you will, while falling more in love with Him and out of love with yourself, simply come to no longer desire it. When it becomes the natural choice your God-strengthened heart makes, you will by nature wish to cease doing it.

You will have been made free of the wicked desires of the flesh by the God who makes the heart new and purified.

If you are in bondage to a thing of the sinful nature, it takes running to God so that He may take away your sin, in order to be TRULY free from sin.
