Godly Messages by Un-Godly Artists

I was once in a youth service at a camp I go to every summer and the speaker taught that anyone can be used by God and be annointed without actually being a Christian. There is an artist of which I am particularly fond of (excluding her more explicit pieces which contain foul language) anyway her name is Regina Spektor and she wrote a song that I have even sung at church and it's called, "Laughing With."

Take a look at the lyrics:
No one laughs at God in a hospital
No one laughs at God in a war
No one’s laughing at God
When they’re starving or freezing or so very poor

No one laughs at God when the doctor calls
After some routine tests
No one’s laughing at God
when it’s gotten real late
And their kid’s not back from that party yet

No one laughs at God when their airplane
Starts to uncontrollably shake
No one’s laughing at God
When they see the one they love hand in hand
with someone else and they hope that they’re mistaken
No one laughs at God when the cops knock on their door
And they say “We’ve got some bad new, sir,â€
No one’s laughing at God
When there’s a famine, fire or flood

But God can be funny
At a cocktail party while listening to a good God-themed joke or
When the crazies say he hates us
and they get so red in the head
You think that they’re about to choke
God can be funny
When told he’ll give you money if you just pray the right way
And when presented like a genie
Who does magic like Houdini
Or grants wishes like Jiminy Cricket and Santa Claus

God can be so hilarious
Ha ha, ha ha

No one laughs at God in a hospital
No one laughs at God in a war
No one’s laughing at God
when they’ve lost all they got
And they don’t know what for

No one laughs at God on the day they realize
that the last sight they’ll ever see is a pair of hateful eyes
No one’s laughing at God
When they’re saying their goodbyes

But God can be funny
At a cocktail party while listening to a good God-themed joke or
When the crazies say he hates us and they get so red in the head
you think that they’re about to choke
God can be funny
When told he’ll give you money if you just pray the right way
And when presented like a genie
Who does magic like Houdini
Or grants wishes like Jiminy Cricket and Santa Claus
God can be so hilarious

No one laughs at God in a hospital
No one laughs at God in a war
(repeat)
No one’s laughing at God in a hospital
No one’s laughing at God in a war

No one’s laughing at God
When they’re starving or freezing or so very poor

No one’s laughing at God
(repeat)
We’re all â€laughing with Godâ€

I love this song, its so powerful even though she is a secular artist. Any thoughts?

I agree. If she is against God, then these lyrics still speak the truth about God and what people think of Him.

Like it.

Just found the official music video on youtube, thought I'd post it.

Exactly! I absolutly adore this song. I sing it at church and I'm going to preform it (hopefully) at my school's pop show. (I'll get it recorded and posted on youtube so all of you can see it :))

Crazy Train by Ozzy Osbourne is a great Christian message. Just check out the lyrics. Jars of Clay performed this song as well.

The song "Rise Above This" by Seether.
The first time I heard the song, I thought it was a new Christian band...and then my friend showed me some of their other songs, and I was quickly dismayed to find they weren't.

But nonetheless, the song "Rise Above This" sounds more positive than most other songs out there. It may not have been intended to be taken this way, but I always sing it in a Christian context. It makes me feel better and optimistic.
