God's First Commandment in the Garden of Eden
When Satan tempted Eve in the Garden of Eden he offered her the possibility of becoming God simply by eating the forbidden fruit from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. After Adam and Eve both ate of the forbidden fruit God judged them saying, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing Good and Evil.”
After the sin in the Garden of Eden everyone involved, Adam, Eve, and Satan, all tried to elevate themselves to the status of God. Having achieved a small portion of becoming a deity by acquiring the knowledge of good and evil, everyone instantly violated God's First Commandment.
God's very First Commandment states that you shall have no other God before me. And yet, the very act of Adam and Eve's disobedience was to place themselves before God as another God. When Adam and Eve acquired the knowledge of Good and Evil God stated that man had indeed 'become like one of us' and therefore man, both man and woman, had become like God which instantly violated God's First Commandment of not having any other God before God.
God then had to throw Adam and Eve out of the Garden of Eden since wherever they would roam in the Garden of Eden they would need to hide from the presence of God in a futile attempt to prevent the violation of God's First Commandment of being another God before God.
Adam and Eve hid from God to cover their nakedness as mankind already had God's physical likeness on the outside but now they also had God's spiritual likeness on the inside through the acquisition of the knowledge of Good and Evil. Mankind went from 'likeness' in his physical image to God, to 'like one of us' in his spiritual image to God by acquiring the knowledge of Good and Evil.
God's physical 'likeness' was given to man by God at creation so God could walk with man in the Garden without any violation of the First Commandment. God created man's image to be a likeness of God therefore mankind did not create this likeness by his own works or desires thus preventing any violation of God's first commandment. But God's spiritual likeness (hint: the knowledge of Good and Evil) was acquired by mankind through an act of disobedience and this did violate the First Commandment as mankind desired to be their own God before God.
It must be stated that when God created man in his likeness God was preparing for the day when God's only son Jesus Christ would become man to die on the cross for all of mankind's sins. Since Jesus Christ is God become man then Jesus must have the image of God or else he would violate the First Commandment of having any other God before God.
In the first instance man was created in the likeness of God, by God, which didn't violate the First Commandment. But after man's disobedience in the Garden man created himself in the likeness of God spiritually which is a violation of the First Commandment.
Notice that since Jesus Christ is God become man Jesus always had the knowledge of good and evil for he is God and always had this knowledge. Whereas mankind acquired their knowledge of good and evil through the sin of disobedience.
When mankind acquired the knowledge of Good and Evil in the Garden of Eden mankind instantly violated God's First Commandment and became another God before God. God had to throw both the man and woman out of the Garden of Eden and place mankind in an area where they are not in violation of God's First Commandment.
In the Garden of Eden mankind must hide from God to prevent man from violating God's First Commandment whereas on the outside of the Garden of Eden (hint: this world) God must hide from man to prevent man from violating God's own First Commandment.
The violation of God's First Commandment of not having any other God before God can be seen in many instances in the bible. When the Israelites roamed the wilderness they were led by Jesus Christ as a pillar of fire and a pillar of cloud, therefore no person could stand before God (hint: pillar of fire and a pillar of cloud) as another God so every person lived an austere life devoid of anything that would potentially violate the First Commandment of making ourselves into a God of this world.
Additionally, when Mary was carrying Jesus Christ in her womb Mary could not violate God's first commandment of being another God before God. Therefore God made the man to rule over the woman so when a woman (hint: Mary) is carrying God's only son Jesus Christ (hint: God become man) the woman will have no authority to rule over anything in this world and hence she can never become a God before a God and violate the First Commandment while pregnant with God's only son Jesus Christ.
Another instance of the First Commandment never being violated is when Jesus Christ gathered his disciples together. Since Jesus Christ is God become man there can be no other God before God and hence, just like all the Israelites roaming the desert, all the disciples lived an austere life that prevented any of them from becoming a God before God with their own authority which would have violated the First Commandment (hint: which is why the first shall be last and the last first).
Believe in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, who is God become man, so that God can exist with mankind (hint: through the indwelling Holy Spirit – get baptized!) without anyone hiding from anyone else so as to never be in violation of God's First Commandment.
God Bless
