God's Hope - Fleeing to Plowshares and Pruning Hooks

This Sunday my pastor at McLean Bible Church quoted Hebrews 6:17-19 ….

Hebrews 6:17-19New International Version (NIV)
17 Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath. 18 God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged. 19 We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.

Notice it said that, “we who have fled to take hold of the hope...” which means that hope is found elsewhere and we must flee to it. Now remember that in the story of Sodom and Gomorrah God sent two angels to Lot and his family to flee the immorality of Sodom and Gomorrah. It is clearly evident that God WILL NOT provide any hope to any of those people engaged in the willful sin of homosexuality!

People today, especially Christian clergy, are seeking to provide hope to those engaging in the sinful act of homosexuality. But clearly God will not provide any hope to the homosexual unless they flee from their immorality!

Another biblical quote that my pastor related during his service was the famous quote of Isaiah 2:3-5 turning swords into plowshares. Notice that for peace to begin all the weapons MUST be turned into plowshares and pruning hooks. I can imagine the look on many people's faces who gather before God expecting God's holy EBT card to be handed out to them but instead God gives them tools (hint: Plowshares and Pruning Hooks) to begin work! People say they want God to bring peace to this world but imagine if that peace comes from working in the fields instead of holding weapons that will be used to steal someone else's possessions!

“Work will never kill you and it will bring God's peace!”
Isaiah 2:3-5 New International Version (NIV)
3 any peoples will come and say,

“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
to the temple of the God of Jacob.
He will teach us his ways,
so that we may walk in his paths.”
The law will go out from Zion,
the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
4 He will judge between the nations
and will settle disputes for many peoples.
They will beat their swords into plowshares
and their spears into pruning hooks.
Nation will not take up sword against nation,
nor will they train for war anymore.

5 Come, descendants of Jacob,
let us walk in the light of the Lord.

Believe in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and flee immorality and God will turn your hands into instruments of peace by holding the necessary tools to work in the fields! By the way you'll also be given eternal life with God the Father, God the Son Jesus Christ, and God the Holy Spirit in heaven.

God Bless
